5300 Vortex

Orginally i planned on swapping an LT1 paired to a built 700R4 into my 89 firebird, but after some research i noticed many 5300's availible at the local scrap yard, most with under 70,000miles and many for less then $1500 and some less then $1000 in good running condition. The 5300 makes similiar power to the LT1 and has better gas mileage and is a more realible motor, im considering it for the swap. Whats everyones thoughts on this?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Many have done it. It's basically an LS1 swap. Oil pan and intake are the swap-overs you'll need.

Check the sticky in the top section of this forum.

(For the record, it's "Vortec". . .)

Re: 5300 Vortex

I know its very similar to the LS1 swap, i cant get over how cheap these motors are...unbelieveable, and yes "Vortec"typo my fault, i'd be on this forum a lot more but it loads so slow for me and i dont know why.
