Re: Rear end questions

my suggestion, and this is w/o really knowing what your overall plans are for the car..either 3.42's or 3.73
i'd personally go with 3.42's..plus its an easy set to get ahold of..since it was a common factory ratio...but thats just my opinion

when I first did my LT1 I used a 4l60e and 3.42s that worked pretty good for the street..

Re: Rear end questions

good deal, I just was going to get a hold of a 82-92 Iroc 3:42 posi rear end and swap it for my 3:08 so everything should line up(brake lines,etc....)

Re: Rear end questions

how much would it cost to build a ford 9" i have a complete 9" laying around but need to narrow it, and build it to handle over 500rwhp, right now my 84 t/a with an 02 ls1 and t56 is pretty stock, i have a powertrax locker in the stock rear with 3.73 gears, should the stock rear the way it is now hold up to a couple tests at the track?

Normal launches will be fine, 4 grand launches with heavy powershifting it wont last long. I have the stock 02 Camaro rear end in mine, I have had it at the track on Nitto Drag Extreme tires with 2500 plus rpm launches and its fine. I also have a line lock. Its the sudden jarring that does in our small ring gears. If your worried just throw a set of Richmond grears in it, should be good to beat the tar out of up to around 400hp at the wheels. Thats what a Richmond tech told me. I had Richmond gears, 3.42 in my old setup, TPI 305 with a 6 speed 280ft lbs of torque at the wheels. I beat the hell out of it and never a problem. They are also relatively cheap and easy to set up, provided everything else in your rear end is good, when I did mine I only changed the gears themselves.
