Just wanted to start a thread showing the progress on my swap.
I have a 91 RS Vert and a 2002 LS1 with a Thunder Racing 224/230 112 LSA .610/.605 lift Cam, Stock 243 heads with Patriot Dual Gold Springs, TSP Ported LS6 oil pump, LS2 timing chain, ARP head bolts, and Comp Hardened push rods.
Will be ordering the "Hawks" 3rd gen swap Long Tubes
Low Mileage 4L60e with a Circle-D 3000 Stall Converter, and a Big Fawkin Trans Cooler.
Spohn motor mounts and trans cross member.
My buddy and I pulled the old crappy 305 tbi and 700r4 out and I have notched the k-member (to run the stock 2002 a/c compressor) and my buddies dad is welding it up, I just primered the engine bay last night. The vert is going to be Torch Red with the 92 Heritage Stripe Package.
I have some pics of whats been going on so far:
Had to tow it home as it wasn't running when I bought it...

When I first got it home

Picture of the crappy 305

Bought an LQ4 only to realize it was a 99 LQ4 and would not bolt up to a 4l60e (or t56)

Pulling the 241's off of the 2002 LS1 we pulled

Empty engine bay, all sanded ready for primer

Primered
More updates coming soon!!

Looks like you have some good plans for this swap!
Subframe notched and boxed in so the A/C compressor from the 4th gen will fit, I think the welds came out pretty good.

Um... Ok. Now im definetly keeping an eye on this! Holy crap man thats some good MIG'n... Very very nice job on that notch. Wish mine came out that clean. I figured no one will ever see it so I burnt it to gether and called it good. hehe.
Looking forward to more update pics!!

Thanks man! I would love to be able to take the credit for the welds, I did some of the cutting, but my buddies dad welded it up for me. Originally Posted by ghettocruiser

I was almost thinking about getting it powder coated, but I think that might be an overkill for a subframe...
I am going to start sanding on the engine bay Saturday and hopefully spray the color sunday morning... I will post pics asap
Senior Member
wow that looks like its gonna be a killer setup. Definitly following this one
Well props to that guy for welding...and props to you for good cutting and choosing a good welder then!
I wouldnt powdercoat that k-member. Unless you were making a trailer queen show car. But...I would suggest something a little better than spray paint. I might be inclined to use POR-15 on there. I was gonig to do that to mine this time around since it was out...but I was out of POR at the time, and just wanted the motor in. But...It doesnt take much for spray paint to start failing on the k-member. Couple stone nicks and the rust starts spreading. not saying POR cant be nicked..but its alot tougher than spray paint.
Anyway...cant wait to see more pictures and paint progress!!

Yeah that was my original plan, to POR it, and the rearend and the control arms, I think I might still do that.. but no way is this going to be a trailer queen haha... Thanks for the kind words and suggestions!Originally Posted by ghettocruiser

Just finished the painting around 9pm... glad its done tho...
Here are some pics of while I was painting... I will take pics in better light tomorrow... The first one is of my badass paintbooth haha

I think this was the 3rd coat... I used single stage.

looks pretty wet here

Another picture of the subframe... gonna have to paint that quick, already starting to rust.

As you can see it was a wonder I didn't bump into the frame rails while I was spraying it.

Looks good man, nice work! POR15 has no UV inhibitors so if you use it you still have to topcoat it.
He wont need to top coat the k-member though... You cant even really see any of it, and none of it is exposed to sunlight during normal driving...or even with the hood up. All the things I painted under my car still look powdercoated after a couple years of driving.
Paint looks good so far! And dont be embarrased about that paint booth! Ive seen worse...and have used worse..haha.
Its always nice to get the paint parts done. Because then its my favorite part... Assembly. And its so nice to put parts onto nice clean non-dusty/rusty body parts.

Looks like it's coming along well!
Thanks guys! I snapped a few more before I left for work.

Thanks to my old Auto Body teacher! He hooked me up with a powder coating place that will get all oils off the subframe, sand blast it, and powder coat it for 75 bux! even if it is not the best I think its better than spending 50 bux on por15 and having to do all the work on it... I should have pics up monday night of that, I am picking it up monday
Found a place to powder coat it for 75 bux, I think it looks great, definatley worth 75

Amazing.. that looks very good.
So the engine is "in", it's bolted in... just need to buy some strut mounts, the trans mount, then I can have the car sitting on the ground... To have it "running", I need headers, a ecm, and wiring... will update again soon

The LS2 covers are for sale, willing to trade for some LS1 covers!

Oh my gosh!! I am so jealous. The ultimate combo!! Keep up the awesome work and the pics coming!!
Just ordered the spohn spherical mounts, will post pics of them installed I am hoping to have the front and rear suspension in soon.

Thats coming along very nice. I just had my K member powder coated too and I think they look killer and should be durable. Well worth the money in my opinion.
Just a warning to everyone. Don't use a piece of cloth like his as a mask when your spraying POR 15. I did and I was sick for a week after.

I've been pretty busy with work and my band, but me and my buddy had some time so we put all the front suspension back in there including some v6 springs for the wight difference, the spohn spherical strut mounts, and some new struts. Rebuilt the control arms with new ball joints and bushings (AC Delco). We put the plastic gas tank up in, and wired it up for the 3rd gen harness. Also installed the 90 ohm sender that I got from gmpartsdirect. The rearend is almost up there but we ran out of time.
Here are some recent pics, Ill take more when I get off work today.

Updates:
2002 plastic tank installed
4th gen rear installed
Front/Rear Suspension pretty much in there
Car is now sitting on the ground...
Weird thing tho... I got Brand new Stock v6 springs from carquest, and the car sits all the way up... like if I push down on it it comes back up and hits the bump stop... hopefully it is because the whole front end isn't on yet... I wonder if it has something to do with the Spherical strut mounts, or the newness of the springs... Either way, next step is installing headers and the rest of the engine bay stuff.
My buddy is going to do the wiring while I am bustin Atts trying to get the thing ready to paint.
Will hopefully have updates soon!

Sorry about the crappiness of the pic, I will take some better ones with the digital camera soon

Dont worry about your ride height yet. First, you got new springs. They are going to need to settle in. Second, whenever you first put suspension back under a car, the only way its going to totally settle is when you drive it. Bouncing it up and down wont do it completely..my car is the same way. and Finally, you still have a LOT of weight to put on the front end. All the sheetmetal and all the little odds and ends will add up.
Its lookin good, and she'll settle down once you get it all together. Get her on the road, then check your ride height and make you changes accordingly. I dont know too many people that drop their car, take it for the first drive, and then never tweak it again
Good job!!!

Looks awesome! I wanna redo my underhood when I do my swap. That's a good deal on the powdercoating. Around here, it'd be something like $150....
BTW, I'm going to drive my car to your house so you can get started on mine.

Thanks man! haha yeah I need some motivation... or at least some money to keep my swap going. Right now I am waiting to buy the hawks headers which are 950 to my door with 3" collectors, no AIR and the gaskets/bolts are included.
I want to do it right the first time, but its pretty hard for me to come up with that kind of money.

I know. I've been wanting to do this for about two and half years, but with me still in college and my car a DD, I can't really do it now. At least not the way I want. Can't wait to retire the L03 once I graduate.
So finally was able to buy the Hawks swap headers, I got the 3 in" collector with no AIR. Overall I think they look pretty good, what do you guys think?

one of the primaries is not a solid piece, not sure why... going to call tomorrow and see if there is a reason

man they look good im still debating on makeing my own or buyin these.......but im broke again after the election i opted to go ahead and get the .45 Cal Glock 21 handgun ive wanted for a while sooooo it shall be a lil bit till i buy more expensive parts....
I hear you man, I am thinking about picking up another gun before any stupid laws get passed. here's my Springfield XD-357:

I'll post more pics Sunday probably, I hope to have the headers in, the fuel lines in, maybe drill the hole in the firewall so the harness can fit under the dash, and maybe figure out a little of the wiring.
