Please help me!

I swapped an LS2 engine to my 89 trans-am and i'm having some problems with the power steering. It doesn't work properly, and the pump gets very hot. Should the pump work with old steering?

Re: Please help me!

Can you be more specific than "It doesnt work properly."? Whats it doing?

If you are asking if the LS pumps will work with the older steering box...then yes. Im running the stock LS pump on my car with a standard box. Im pretty sure the LS2 pumps should work just like the LS1 pumps do.

If the pump is getting hot, it sounds like the steering is either binding, or maybe there is air in the system. Did you do the bleed procedure when first filling the pump with fluid? If the steering is binding, you probably have troule elsewhere in your steering...or in the box.

Toss us some more details...

J.

Re: Please help me!

I would jack the front of the car up, take the top off of the resevoir and with the car running, turn the wheels lock to lock several times to make sure that all the air is out of the system.

Oops...forgot to describe a bleeding procedure to see if you did it... But try what klortho said.
