L03 to LS1

Hello, all I found a brand new LS1 for $3,000 without wiring harness and ECU. I have a '91 Camaro RS 100% stock with the 305 and auto trans. My question to you is how harsh will this be as a project. What will I have to do to get the motor hooked up to the trans, or should I just get a new trans? Is this a fairly hard swap or not. I am more of an old school carburated guy but my buddy Is into computerized motors and new stuff and has offered his help with the build. What do you guys think is it a good idea. I would also have to get a wiring harness and what not as well. Has anyone else done thi if sso how much did it cost minus the motor?

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engine-swap/ is the location on this board where all the engine swap stuff is.
as simply as i can state, based only on what i have read here, its a pain to do it. one guy has been going for over a year and still does not have it complete, but he is doing a prime job.
its not easy. did you get the trans because you will need it.
now spend 10 or 15 hours reading the engine swap links and you will only have scratched the surface but you will know the scope of the problem.
good luck

Thank you so much for your help. The guy who has the motor does not have a Transmission. I have another Camaro to drive in the mean time so I am not worried about time. I am up for any challenges up ahead. Thanks for the reply.

$3000 seems like a mighty high price for no PCM, harness, or transmission. You can find complete LS1/4L60E/PCM/harness deals for that much.

I agree with five7kid. Altho, if the deal is local, and you can pick it up yourself, it is still a bit expensive, but at least you dont have to pay shipping.

I paid $440 freight South Carolina to Colorado, complete engine/trans/PCM/harness, even the radiator fans and clutch pedal/hydraulics.

No more than $2000 local for no trans/PCM/harness, I'd say.
