Fuel pump issue on LT1 swap

The facts:
92 camaro rs 305 swapped to LT1 T56. I used a walbro 255 in tank, stock size braided fuel lines, and still have a stock LT1 FPR. I changed the fuel filter.

The problem:
on one of the first trips in the car over 50 min, the car surges and dies like its out of gas. i let it cool and it ran fine. it did it again on another trip made it home just in time and put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail. the pressure starts at 20 psi and goes to 0 psi while idling in about 2 min.

if you let the car cool, it runs fine with strong fuel pressure. other than an bad pump, i dont know what it could be. ive pulled the pump, checked hoses, changed the filter. im lost other than redoing the whole fuel system (which would be a good next step in my build but id like something to fix it in the mean time)

here are some pics just for giggles. i had a hard time finding pics of lt1 swaps before i did mine. sorry, cell phone pics.

Re: Fuel pump issue on LT1 swap

I had a walbro fail on me late 2008. Had it since 05 or 06 and might have driven 300 miles on it. There was a lot of walbro 255 pumps that failed but I did hear they improved their design. All I'm saying is that Walbros can fail. I got fed up with it when it happened and decided to install a LS1 tank so I can upgrade to a really good pump in the future or a dual LS1 fuel pump setup.

Anyways, I'm about 90% sure its a bad fuel pump. I would check the FPR first by taking the vacuum line off of it and see if it smells like gasoline really bad or if gas pours out, and if so the FPR is bad.

Good job on getting the LT1 in the RS. Looks sweet.

I think (if I ever get done with the rebuild) I am eather going with the LS1 tank or a AC Delco TPI pump.
