Oil Pressure sender

Ok i have gone through 2 oil pressure senders busting them while tapping it for the 3rd gen sender. I was reading the 98 LS1 sender works with the 3rd gen gauge. Is this true or do i need to go buy another sender and try tapping it again? Thanks

Re: Oil Pressure sender

I have a 2002 LS1 Oil Pressure Sender installed in my LS376/480 that is directly driving my '85 Iroc stock pressure gauge. It works well and gives an accurate enough reading for what you are looking for

Re: Oil Pressure sender

Stop buying good senders to modify. Grab some from a junkyard

Alan is right. The LS1 oil sensor will run your 3rd gen gauges. Older cars will require the updated connector. Later cars with the fuel pump relay bypass switch in the same sending unit will plug right in

The 98 only sender refers to the coolant gauge sender. It mixes the CTS and sender into one 3 wire connector. It will also work with your stock gauge, but be a few degrees low

Re: Oil Pressure sender

that's actually good to hear. I spent a couple of VERY frustrating hours today trying to find what sensors to use after I bought two adapters to use on my oil pressure and water temp. If I can USE the factory senders from an LS based platform to drive my stock 92 gages it would be great. Saves a lot of headaches for me. Also no adapters needed so it lessens the chance of a leak. Any ideas on the water temp sender? At this point all I know is that it will be going in the rear passenger side head.... gawd I'm frustrated!!!

Re: Oil Pressure sender

The front of the drivers head is easier access and no clearance issues with the HVAC box

Ask for a 98 Camaro or TA temp sender. If it doesnt have 3 pins in it, send it back

Use a TPS or AC high pressure sensor connector on the new CTS. Pinout is in here

thanks. Clearance is NO issue with my car, no HVAC stuff to get in the way and headers give me plenty of work room. I'm just looking for something that will read correctly with my factory gage cluster on my 92. No PCM to deal with as I'm carbed and need to signal for the computer. If I could FIND a 1/8 npt temp sender with a single spade connector on it that had the right ohms class I'd use it. I could come out the passenger side of the firewall with the rest of my MSD wiring, starter wires and battery cable. Makes a nice little loomed package that way. No wires running around in circles on the motor. Simple and clean.
