My 82 Z build

Well ive owned this car since i was 18, now am 23...since then ive had a kid which slowd down the build alot! When i get time from work and away from the gf kid..i try to get work done! right now ive been foucusing in the body work (trying to learn by doin myself, so bare with me)..then collecting parts for my swap..

the back half is all primerd, just 1 or 2 spots to fill..

the front end is off and primerd, needs a few spots plastic filld but overall in good condition..

the pass-side is all in primer now, just a few spots to massage...

heres a pic of the color scheme i got it with, i plan on going back to the same colors (so the interior matches)

ALRIGHT, time for the funner stuff....Stock bottom end lq4, 317 cast heads..going carbd (for money reasons and theres 1 other ls swapd thirdgen in my town and its f.i.) Bought the motor for cheap b/c it was a parts motor for a guy locally. So it took time to find fbody accessories/oil pan set up..

picture speaks for itself..

may not look like much but its a th350, with b&m insides..(bought from a friend for 200$)

Carb'd LSx - personally, I don't see it as less expensive. Looks like you're starting with a bare long block; you could get LS1 take-off parts for a lot less than what the carb LSx parts are going to cost you. Granted, if you want a better intake than the LS1, you will spend more money for that. You didn't mention cam, can we assume stock LQ4? LS1 parts will handle that pretty well. Carb can't compete with EFI on the street, but if this is a weekend toy - well, I'd still do EFI.

What are you planning for a torque converter on the TH350? Corollary question: What year is your LQ4? Did the 317 heads came on it? You'll probably need to do something "special" to use the TH350 on the LQ4.

Re: My 82 Z build

I understand that efi is easier to tune, better mpg and whatnot...But theres only 2 ls-swapd thirdgens in my town and i want to do it differently then him! Plus i like going this route b/c later on down the road with a little more funding..i can drill the fuel injector bosses on the carbd manfiold, put a spacer and throttle body on it..plum sum extra wires and fuel stuff and BOOM, got a fuel injected ls...and maybe with a little more luck, i can throw a little 76 trim turbo on there!

My whole goal rite now is to get the motor in the car..running with this route, on a very limited budget!

As for a tq conveter, gonna run a th350 style converter...already bought a 6.0 flexplate with a spacer to allow the th350 to bolt up to ls motor...

And off the top of my head, i dont remember what yr motor it was....but here are the heads that came with the motor

they were hot tankd, fluxd and milld 010". i think they might be off of a fbody but could be wrong!

No, 317's are from LQ4's. Like 243's but with larger chambers.

Reason I asked is the early LQ4's with cast iron heads had a longer flange on the crank where the flexplate/flywheel mounts.
