Did you send out the PCM for a tune? If so, where did you send it? I have to get mine done.

Its approx the same size as the LSx PCM. I wrapped mine with an old towel and shoved it where the old ECM was. Used a small metal tab to hold it up permanent

i dont think that there would be enogh room but i could be wrong..im gonna go with you jon and prob wrap it in an old rag or bubble wrap it and stick it up in there with something to prop it up then the panel will hide the rest..im still a little unsure with what to do with the air intake, how did you do yours jon? looks like you had a 4 inch pipe with a welded 90 on there?

Re: 1987 Trans Am LTx build finally!

When I built my exhaust, I ordered a box of 2.5" mandrel bends. I told the shop to toss in a few extra 3" and 4" bends to do my rear exhaust and intake with

My intake is one 4" 90 and half of a 45*

LT1 guys have it a little easier. Several companies off the aluminum 90* that directly fits your TB, so its a matter of clamping your MAF on that and building a short 3.5" track to the filter. 8" of strait pipe or part of a 45" bend would be more than enough

Re: 1987 Trans Am LTx build finally!

ok so finally getting back online again i can update this a little,i FINALLY got plates on my car yesterday and although it rained all day i couldnt resist going out for a rip with it for the first time.Car went great, still has its little issues that need to be resolved like exhaust leak and a front end alignment but i was very pleased with the performance of the LT1.Even on dry pavement the car just trys so hard when taking off not to spin its tires i love it

I Would like to go to longtube headers as my shortys y pipe doesnt fit well at all with the LT1 oil pan and it causing leaks all over the place.Whats involved in doing longtubes? do i need another x member? does anyone make a long tube Y pipe for our cars?

Hope to have a couple video clips up on here soon!

Re: 1987 Trans Am LTx build finally!

for the record i just installed longtubes (hedmen #68469)

they are D ported to match the LT1 perfectly. The drivers side required one dent to clear the frame, and the passenger side required removing the starter to bolt in.

overall id say its quite simple. about y pipes, i have no idea. I dont think hedman makes one but other companies do, a local place could fab one up for pretty cheap if you asked most likely.

Thanks, its glad to see that my hard work has paid off.i still have alot of plans for it,this winter im pulling the harness again and changing around some of the lengths and relooming it since i didnt do that well the first time.

Ill also be looking for a T56 transmission with some head and intake porting.that should hold me over for a little while

Re: 1987 Trans Am LTx build finally!

Thanks steve, motor is actually comin out again this week coming up since I pulled it apart the other day and found metal shavings in the motor..I thought it was just a dry lifter but all the lifters looked fine I'm thinking cam bearings maybe? I figured if I have to take it apart again its only gonna go back together stronger! Btw thanks to anyone that has helped me through all this so far this site has been the best source for any of my problems.
