ok this could be a totaly stupid question but here we go. ok so im assuming because i havent heard this be dont but anyhow why coulnt the stuff from a lt engine or ls engine be used on a totaly difrent sbc? whats the diffrence from what im guessing are the blocks? if this could be done would it be worth it on a 305 and would any fabrication other then swapping in a lt/ls engine be required

Some LT1 parts can be swapped on, as it is the same block.
LS1s are a completely different block, so virtually NOTHING, if not actually noting, will swap to the earlier SBC blocks.

To expand on that, really the only thing that will fit from the LS1 are the lifters and valve springs.Originally Posted by Stephen

LTx's use a different block from GEN I SBCs. The rotating assy is the same, and cams are compatible keeping the dowel pin length in mind. LTx blocks and cams have no provision for a mechanical fuel pump. Cyl heads and intake can be interchanged with mods, but do not work directly
GEN III/IV engines are their own animal and everything was redesigned from the two previous platforms. 1bdbrd got it with the lifters and valve springs being the only parts that swap. The engines went full metric as well so you cant even swap common bolts
There are aftermarket blocks that accept SBC and LSx parts though. These seem like a solution to a problem that doesnt exist

You can convert your SBC to a coil pack ignition system like the LS1, but other than that (and the lifters and springs like 1bdbrd said) I don't think anything swaps.

The LT1 block is the same size externally. These engines had a reverse cooling system, therefore the block and heads are different. Most of the internals will directly swap. Intake and heads can be swaped onto earlier small blocks, but requires extensive modification. Hope this explains some of your questions, Dean.Originally Posted by Stephen
