Re: LT1 swap

It seems like a good deal, to me, for $1800.

I'm trying to find a thread that shows what needs to be done to the stock crossmember, so the 4L60 tranny will mount to the darn car. I can't find a thread that shows any specifics.

I wonder if I could/should swap in the entire fuel tank/pump assembly to my 86, as well. Hmmm. Hmmm.

Re: LT1 swap

I recall a few threads of modifying the stock crossmember. They chopped the xmember at the mount and welded thin plates moving the location back a few inches. Lining it up is easiest when the engine is bolted to the K-member. Id suggest setting your pinion angle before the welding the finishing pass. Its a bit trickier that way

Re: LT1 swap

Nothing special about the 4th gen tanks, they're metal until '99 when they swapped to plastic.

Re: LT1 swap

Metal tank swaps gain nothing. The plastic tanks dont gain much either aside from an extra gallon of capacity

If you're starting with a carb'd car, it adds quite a bit. . .

Re: LT1 swap

I was figuring doing the swap and using the entire 4th gen fuel pump/tank assembly might get rid of my noisy fuel pump issue, plus it would be a newer fuel pump, which can't hurt.

Re: LT1 swap

I found this page to be the most clear and understandable, as far as wiring goes. The harness plugs are all labeled, and there are charts that show which wires are used/kept and which wires are not used/kept.

http://www.lt1swap.com/all_lt1.htm

I guess the wires that are not used are the same, no matter what you're swapping the LT1 into. That's how it seems, from the info on this page, anyway.

Once I take out the 305 tpi and dig into the engine bay of the 97 Camaro, more things will become evident and clear.
