Donor car for LSx swap?
After doing some research on here, I'm beginning to think that if I can find a donor 98-02 Camaro/Firebird I can make good use of a lot of the parts.
I'd really love to swap the motor/trans as well as the engine interior into the car, so I'm thinking as far as wiring goes, I'd be better off just getting a donor car and swapping everything over, right?
Has anyone else done this? Ditched most of the factory 3rdgen wiring in favor of a more complete 4thgen harness? Just curious if its worth a little more to get the motor/trans/interior/wiring/gastank/rearend/brakes all out of one place instead of nickel and dime shopping for parts.

Its only cost effective when you've got the whole donor car
This guy used EVERYTHING

Ghettocruiser used almost all of the 4th gen wiring with success

IMHO building the swap harness to be compatible with your stock body connections to use your stock gauges is the easiest method and usually gives a minimalist appearance of the engine bay. The wiring stickys up top center around this method. Installing it is simple, just plug it up and fire

PM me if you want one built

also, when you buy the donor car, you have the ability to recoup some of your money by selling off the parts you don't need (body, interior, etc). good way to go. Not that its a huge difference in the scheme of things, but may want to go 99+ for the ecu/harness (which you'll probably mod anyway) and possibly a couple other goodies that got small upgrades over the years (like the exhaust manifolds in 01+ and possibly even the LS6 intake manifold).

Start looking for that donor car asap. It took me 5 months to find one, and I'm going to end up flipping it. I started out looking for a wrecked or damaged one, but they were never around my area and I finally found a local deal for $2300.

If you've got the space to stash a donor car with your project car, it is hands down the way to go.
As everyone else has said, you'll be able to use quite a few parts off the donor, and whatever you dont use, you can sell and recoup money.
You'd be surprised how cheap complete cars are going for with just a few problems.

Hey, i have one for you! Complete T-Top body, comes with doors, and hatch, new floor boards (Installed). Fresh Satin paint in the engine comparment, with smoothed firewall (Done the right way). 5 Speed car. Awsome shape. I have the engine cradle for it, but its not under the car, and i just sold the rear, so its up on stands at the moment. The rear wheel wells have some rust holes at the wealds, but thats an easy fix. After my son was born, i just dont have the time. If i cant sell it on here, ill just keep it in the garage for as long as it takes to get back to it. Make me a reasonable offer
Re: Donor car for LSx swap?
I also have the Z28 ground fx that came on the car, as well as a set of RS fx i just picked up. I still have the wheels that you can see in my pic, and everything out of the interior. All is in prety good shape. I have a TH350 that came out of the car with about 800 miles on it. I have the 350 as well, with about the same milage, but it was running hot (not over heating) when i yanked it out. I also have a brand new Paineless 18 circuit harness for it. Again, please dont ask to sell these without the car because ill need all of it if it doesnt sell, and i end up puttinf it together in the future. Thanks. LMK if you want pics.
