another lsx swap begins!
ive had my 86 ta since i started driving almost 7years ago and even then i know one day it would be getting a "ls1 swap" and now its finaly a reality! although its not a "ls1" but its a 01 lm7. i picked her up yesterday and have been wired and excited since. so far ive got a complete 5.3 minus flexplate ps pump and alt a 03 lq4 harness 99 camaro pcm stock ls1 fuel rails ls1 intake some 99 fbody manifolds. ill be using my old th350 and ******* 9.5in 3500 stall for the inital swap with hopes to find a deal on a t56 swap or 4l60e with a aftermarket converter soon. the car is still rocking the 2.73s which i will eventualy change but the car needs so much other stuff from sitting all these years i just want it to move under its own power for now. well enough talking here are some pics!

Re: another lsx swap begins!
ok i know i havent updated anything since july so here goes lol may take a couple posts with all the pictures. i really started making progress on it this week we had been house hunting all summer and spent most of the last month moving and i finaly started getting things done. i finaly have a garage now so thats very exciting. i finished cleaning out the car and pulled the hood off today still need to shop vac and scrub inside and going to cut out the cancer in the floor pans in the next week or two. i got my ls1 intake setup on and painted the valve covers and coils and brackets. i bought a flexplate this week and got a good deal on a ls1 hot cam with springs so that will be atleast a little better than the stock cam for now. i still need to pull the trick manifolds off the thing and do a lil block cleaning still.

Re: another lsx swap begins!
thanks! im hoping that to have my floor pan patched interior back in and motor and trans set in the car so i can build the exhaust by the end of winter and hope to start it by late spring early summer. it all depends on cash flow lol. i still need a fbody pan thats really the only thing stoping me from a test fit.

What are the specs on a stock ls1 pan? That one doesn't look too bad if it will work.

Re: another lsx swap begins!
its been awhile since ive updated so here we go. i got the motor all cleaned up and painted and everything on it minus alt and power steering pump. i bought a 88 rs for parts since i need a floor pan and the car has a 3.73 posi rear sportlines and all new poly bushings and brakes ect ect. i droped the k-member out of my car tonight and am going to start cleanup tomorrow and repaint the engine bay and stick the k-member from the rs with my motor and transmision into my car. now since im kinda closer to the homestrech and have more progress to post ill try to keep up with the thread a little more. im also have been talked into doing a 4thgen dash swap by ShMaCk2004 so that will be going in too. i hope to have it driveable enough to take it on a 2hr one way trip for a f-body show in the late spring so its now crunch time. here are the pics enjoy!

Re: another lsx swap begins!
Looking good so far. Did you have to drag the k-member assembly out of the side of the car?

Re: another lsx swap begins!
This is prob not the right way but its the way we did it. One end of the chain was around the steering box the other ent through the strut tower. I will more than likely find a better location when I lower the car back down.

Re: another lsx swap begins!
some updates. i sent off my harness to pocket at the begining of the week i picked up a 4thgen tank a few weeks ago got all my f-body accessories and picked up a box of 3in mandrel bends from ebay to build a y pipe to the factory manifolds. im debating on buying a set of the ebay shortys to throw on also. i installed the kmember back in the car last weekend and repainted the engine bay a few weeks ago plasmacut the driverside floor pan out to weld in a new one and hopefully by the end of the weekend ill have the stock rear out of the car along with the stock tank.
