there's plenty more of this info in the first chapter of the SA Design book: "How to build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s" But oddly enough, there's no mention of the work done toward a V-10 version of the LS1.

But it's never gonna happen. The real mystery is why the classic 4.3 soldiers on, rather than giving us a 3/4 LS2, the best of all the LS for V6-ing. Especially since the LS1 was based on the proposed "Venture V6" that was supposed to replace the 4.3
We'd get 50% more power, way less weight, and so on.
