third gen ls swap questions
i recently aquired a l59 flex fuel 5.3 truck engine, pcm, wiring harness, and accsorier drive for 150 bucks, i plane on doing a mild build on the motor. but here r my questions. i have an 86 z28 with a t5 in it, will this bolt up behind my 5.3 or will i have to go a differnt rount (ie bell housing or trans) i want to stay with the manual trans. if it will bolt up will i still have to change my trans cross member?. i know that i am gonna have to chang the oil pan but instead of going with a fourth gen pan could i use one from gmpp muscle car pan. i am still in the planing phase and am uncertian weather i will go with a carb of fi, but i am leaning towards carb due to cost. thanks for your help

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
You can bolt up the T5. Only 5 bellhousing bolts will fit, though. And I believe you'll need a spacer for the flywheel.
The "muscle car pan" is an H8 pan, which still sticks down pretty low. You can try it, but an f-body pan would be better.
Rather than going to carb, consider an LS1 intake (dirt cheap) and '10 Camaro water pump (will work with the truck accessories, and the outlet neck clears the TB on an LS1 intake).

Re: third gen ls swap questions
without a cowl hood, the truck accessories wont clear. and unless the T5's built pretty well, I don't think its going to long behind that motor unless you're really babying things. carb is not as cheap as everyone hopes it is, especially if you have everything with the engine already (harness, ecu, etc). plus the great mpg and all-around power curve is lost when you set away from the FI setup

i already have a ws6 hood on the car, so the truck accesorys should work, with that hood can i use the truck intake as well ? also what kind of space will i need for the fly wheel?

You know, now that I think about it more, I've only seen that with a flexplate/auto trans. So, to be honest, I'm not sure what you do to mate an older manual transmission. You would think someone would have done it by now (like a T10), so someone must know. Perhaps call one of the aftermarket flywheel manufacturers like Centerforce, Ram, McLeod, etc.
