What is the easiest way for feeding the LSx engine? I know some people actually use the ls1 fuel pump and plastic tank. But has anyone used a walbro 255 pump with the 3rd gen tank? Or some other type of aftermarket pump.
Walbro 255 in the stock sender/tank
Lines must be modified for the returnless fuel system the LSx is expecting. Diagram with PNs for a full tank to rails AN6 system is posted in the sticky

I did the cleanest/easy way, used the intank 3rdgen walbro and a 97 corvette fuel rail used the gm quick disconnect fittings on the stock 3rdgen tpi hoses used proper fuel injection clamps

I went with Pockets route and did all AN lines and the Vette filter. My car already had a 255 unit in it as I installed it in 02 when I started to modify stuff. Still works 8 years later perfect with the LSX motor. Although it is louder with this setup.

Do you have any pics of your fuel hose setup? I'm about to do the same thing.Originally Posted by 88 350 tpi formula

(still) gathering my fuel stuff, but I too am using the pocket method & a walbro. i had to buy a new sending unit since mine was a factory carbed setup, but found a tpi unit locally for short money
I think both options are both clean and easy. But honestly...the only reason I used the 4th gen tank was because it was sitting right there in my donor car. If I didnt have it, I probably would have stuck with my stock tank and gone with a walbro. I was also going with aftermarket gauges already...so the fuel sender didnt really bother me too much.
Im running the 4th gen plastic tank, and all original 4th gen steel lines. Looks 100% factory except for the stainless compresion fitting up near the front that you cant even see unless youre under the car looking for it. This allowed me to use the stock 4th gen LS1 nylon fuel line off of the fuel rail...until I built a braided stainless line with russel quick disconnects.
Ill be abandoning that and building the line from the fuel filter to the front of the car out of all braided stainless. Or bending my own hard lines... Either or. I dont like having the compression fitting in there even though its been perfect for years and two different cars. But Ide also like to get the line away from the headers completely.
One thing is for sure..that 4th gen tank is easier to get out with the soft filler hose. And ***GASP*** Ill be doing the fuel pump "hack" in the back hatch when I do my racetronix upgrade harness. The 4th gen fuel sender has quick disconnects on it, so the opening you have to make is much smaller than on the 3rd gens. Not really a pro/con since a lot of guys dont make the access...
Def check the sticky and do some searching though as this has been covered quite a bit. You can also research over on ls1tech's conversion forum.

I used the 3rd gen tank and a Walbro. I also used a return style AFPR. mounted on the firewall. Very easy hookup.

Walbro 255 pump mounted on my 3rd gen pickup inside my 3rd gen tank since the LS1 was installed back in 2004. Originally Posted by Willie B.

Watch out for chinese knockoffs of this pump which have been turning up, stick with a reputable vendor.

I got ahold of one of those pumps back in 08 which i just installed in my swap, it bit the dust in 1hr of run time. The vendor was Jegs (Granettli pump)Originally Posted by kevinc

So i bought a racetronix kit and man talk about good quality stuff, I have the pump installed in the gas tank now all i need to do is install the gas tank back in the car and fire it up =)
Is anyone running the harness that comes with the racetronix kits from either hawks or racetronix? Is this necessary?

i've not used the harness on the 3rd gen, but have used a similar one on other vehicles. definitely worth your time. the wiring is thicker to reduce voltage drop seen at the fuel pump. also doesn't hurt to have new wiring - no oxidized or carbon covered ends, no cracks or potential broken strands inside.

I was looking into get it, but haven't got around to it yet. I would say it all depends on how much of a demand your placing on the pump. They state that this pump is good for 650hp NA @ 13.5 volts. So with the voltage drop the pump will likely see from the stock harness its a good guess that anything south of 500FWHP would be safe.Originally Posted by Iroc'nthe87

I have the racetronix upgrade harness and plan to install it soon. Im going to run it with my stock pump for now. It will make sure the pump is getting exactly what it needs power wise.
I dont know if you noticed, but the wires going to the fuel pump are pretty darn thin. The 4th gen wires are a joke...considering the pump is always running and always under a load.
Yes you could build the harness yourself. But the relay they give you is awesome, as is the rest of the harness. Just a really nice kit.
