Take your pick. Less trouble with the GTO accessories, you'll already have a passenger car intake, LS2 weighs less, T56 can be gotten with the engine.

Both will need the oil pan changed. The LQ4 will cost a lot less to buy, but you'll have to find a T56, intake, accessories, etc.

I'm not sure of a verified number, put people are spraying or charging them to over 600 HP.

Re: 86 z28 lq4 or ls2

performancewise it'd be pretty easy to hit 420rwhp with either engine

They're essentially the same long block, one is iron, the other alum

Hitting your mark should be as little as a cam away

Yep, throw a nasty cam in either one and you'll be at your target hp

Your the exact guy I was gonna refer. 400 to the wheels with just a cam and small things is awesome.

BlueZee28 got his full set up for something around 950, but you'd have to ask him the exact details.

Re: 86 z28 lq4 or ls2

I paid 1200 for my LQ4. Complete engine , harness ecm and everything. 64K on it. Sold alot of it off. When I came down to it , all I reused was the shortblock. I threw on 243 heads, ls6 intake, new lifter, lifter guides, new pushrods and so forth. I used a Vette serp setup.

In hind-sight, it was not a good deal AT ALL... but not by fault of the price, it's because the block was junk and needed a complete rebuild. I'd pay $950 for another one with the harness and ECM again if I knew it was a good block. What I bought should have only been $300...but I didn't know until I pulled it apart.

Re: 86 z28 lq4 or ls2

I picked my complete LQ4 w/ harness and accessories (minus ECM) up the other day for $450. It just hit 100K miles.

Not to hijack the thread, but any cam/spring recommendations if a guy is to swap the cam anyway?

Re: 86 z28 lq4 or ls2

i paid 1200 for my ls2 shortblock. for the money id go lq4 or 9 if ur not worried about weight. i like the 88lbs saved. Bluezee28's 6.0 build would be what i would copy if u want to go fast.
