Was it printed in ink, or embossed in the rubber? On the lip itself, or the support ring?

I was thinking about using silicone myself. Means I'll need to pull it out again (which I'll have to do if I get another seal), but I'd rather not risk a leak.

Oh, I forgot one other question I had. The lifters have the oil hole in the side, in line with the roller. Does it matter which way the hole faces? The galleys are toward the bottom of the lifter bores, I believe, but I'm guessing it doesn't really matter which way the holes face.

It was embossed in the rubber, on the flat side of the ring. I'd get a picture for you but I already put the trans on.

Didn't think it would, but also didn't want to wipe out a lifter/cam.

I think I looked at it hard enough to know it wasn't embossed in the rubber.

I picked up another seal, haven't opened the box yet. Got it from a different store, so we'll see if this one is marked.

Finally opened up the package for the new seal. "THIS SIDE OUT" was clearly stamped in the lip. So, I pulled the installed one off again, looked it over very carefully again, it ain't marked!

But, I had tapped it back in after it popped out of the cover while reinstalling it last time, and apparently I got it properly seated that time. And, I had it in the correct way. So, left it in there, I greased up the lip, and put it back on (it didn't pop out this time).

Didn't have much time to work on it tonight, but the engine oil is draining.
