Safety gear for my build
Hey guys, Im in the middle of my build right now and need a idea on times my car my run. I need a someone close guess as to what she will run so I know what all the NHRA will require my car to have. Hes the specs on my car:
1984 Trans am. (Everything switched to make a 88 Formula clone)
2005 LQ4 block
LS2 pistons
LS3 heads milled .015
LS3 Intake manifold Ported
Ported LS3 TB
Hawks 1 7/8" headers
LS3 spec'd cam
T56 Tranny
Moser 9"
4.30 gear
Detroit locker
Minor weight reduction-IE: spare jack, impact bumpers.......
Car has a newly welded 6 point bar in it.
I am told by everyone on ls1tech that the motor should make up near 480 wheel, But we will just say that it makes 450 wheel for good measure. I plan to spray the motor down the road.
So what kinda times do you guys think she will run with a perfect driver?
Dustin

Without doubt you will need a helmet that meets current specs. If you run slicks, you will need a driveshaft loop (might even need it with street tires - it's a good idea, regardless). If you run a power adder, you will need an SFI jacket.
What clutch will you be running?
I hope you're planning on a heavy duty aftermarket driveshaft and 1350 U-joints/yokes. Are you planning on subframe connectors, aftermarket torque arm, any other suspension upgrades?
My really mild LS1/T56 set-up runs the equivalent of 12.3 at sea level. You're going to have more cubes, more head, more cam, more gear, and more exhaust. You should be well below 11.50, but probably not very far in the 10's, if at all.

I already have sub frame connectors, and I'm saving to buy a tubular k member and a arms. I'm also gonna look into a blow proof bell housing then who knows what. As for suspension I currently has eichbach sportlines on adjustable kyb struts. It also has Lakewood lca and edlebrock panhard bar.

IIRC Vengeance racings shop car with only a 430whp LS3 in a fourth gen Camaro ran 10.3 so... Its not just hp that gets you down the track quick which is why most folks gauge trap speed as a more accurate performance measurement. Basically once you crest 130mph your in baller territory

Sounds like a nice engine, but did you put in a stock LS3 cam? If so, pull it and put in a real cam. You'll be lucky to get out of the 12's with a stock cam and a T56. You've got huge headers and pretty stout gears. You need a cam that will run hard in the top end.
Just be aware, that unless you are part of the elite club of people called "super shifters", that T56 is not the quickest way down the 1/4 mile. I also have a T56 but I chose it for street driveability and not strip.

I realize the t56 isn't ideal for a weekend warrior, but the fun factor is the best.Plus I've never owned a car with a automatic tranny, why start now. Ha ha
