T56 swap driveshaft question

forgive me if this was posted already, but i cant seem to find it in a keyword search. will the driveshaft of a t-56 equipped 4th en work in a third gen swapped to an LS1 and t56? or do i ned to have a new shaft made? they appear to be the same wheelbase, but i am not sure how the 4th gens locate the engine relative to the front wheel centerline.......

Re: T56 swap driveshaft question

All 82-02 driveshafts are interchangable. 4th gen aluminum driveshafts are excellent, however if you're makin big power they can and will pretzel themselves. Better off withh a steel 3rd gen driveshaft at that point.

Re: T56 swap driveshaft question

i am not sure a 3rd gen shaft will work as the t56 seems longer than the 700r4 that cam out of it. i could be wrong. just my impression from looking at them. i also couldnt get the slip yoke for the front of my 89 shaft to go into the end of the t56 when i tried. maybe it was just corrosion, but it didnt seem to want to slip on. are you sure the 3rd gen shafts are compatible?

Yep....Same length, same splines on trans yoke. I'm using my third gen driveshaft that was mated to the 700r4 for my T56 and 4th gen rear end in my '86.

Re: T56 swap driveshaft question

Only ones that dont fit are from the 82-83's with a TH350. All others fit perfectly 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, T5, T56, 10 bolts, 9 bolts etc
