Lsx swap question
Lsx swap question
I'm bouncing around the idea of ditching my 305 for an lsx motor (instead of a 350 or 400). I currently have an 87 Camaro with 5 speed. Would it be possible to reuse my current trans with an lsx until I get the money together to pick up a 6 speed?
If it is possible, do I reuse my crossmember and flywheel?
I know that the t5 won't hold up to the increase in power for long but if I drive it conservatively until infer the 6 speed would everything else bolt up?
Thanks for the help guys

Re: Lsx swap question
Actually, the trans will work. The way I have seen it done with the best success is with a 621 bellhousing, LS1 clutch, etc. Howe racing throwout bearing, and LS7 pilot bearing. You will need to figure out how to create a shifter to correct the 17* angle of the factory mounting, but it can be done.

yeah, sure you could make it work. but by the time you get it all sorted out i bet you'd be over half the cost of just picking up a used t56 and doing that, which will also be a ton easier. just wait to swap until you can do it with the t56 and not waste money on a t5 thats not gonna stay long anyway.

If it was me, I'd just save up and find a T-56 right away. Why go to all that trouble getting those parts when you can find a decent T-56 for $400-$1200 ready to go. Remember though, you need a 98+ T-56 if/when you do it.

Re: Lsx swap question
ltx will bolt up to 93 to 97 t56
Corvette and gto t56 will require quite a bit of changing to make work. 98 to 02 is what you need
