New Fuel Pump for an 84?

Everything I've read tells me I need a new fuel pump for my impending LS1 conversion for my 84 Camaro z28. But from my research, the only in-tank fuel pump made for my year is a universal kit by Walbro. However, they made a specific series for 85+. Is there really that much of a difference of one year that it wouldn't work (stupid question but I thought I'd ask)? Or would I just be better off with a universal kit?

VPN-GCA758-2 This is the part number you need. I just bought one about a month ago.

Will this still work on an 84? I noticed the years started at 85.

It should work. I just think your pickup wont have the "cradle" for the pump to sit on. I would probably recommend you get a 85+ sending unit b/c they will have the cradle and it will be more secure but if $$ is tight you can make it work. I'm totally against them but you might be better of with an external fuel pump for this ap.

I was afraid of that. Any kits or companies you would recommend, despite your better judgement?

Or if the 85+ is the route I decide to go, what would be the best way to go about the sending unit? Sorry for the so many questions, still learning haha.
