Ok if you have the PCM and want to keep it simple use the 4l60e, however you can use a 700r4 if you have one with a flexplate adapter and a VS signal converter.

You don't need to run a 4l60, I'm about to run my 2004R with my 5.3.
All you need is a $30 converter pilot adapter and a universal lockup converter harness. No need for a VsS signal or anything.
Then convert the OEM LS harness to stand alone which isn't hard if you follow the instructions.
Price isn't bad at all. I paid $750 for a 99 5.3 with all accessories, harness and PCM but it had 150k on it.
