Re: 1986 Iroc Procharged 408
Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to get behind the wheel. However, I don't feel like messing with it when it 90° + outside, just not fun.
Also, I mounted the computer and dakota digital box behind the dash so someone can sit in the car now.
The car never had A/C, and since I removed the fan box, I figured I'd might as well remove the heater box from behind the dash. Doing that made plenty of room for the computer.
If I ever feel like it, I'd probably try to put a Vintage air system in it, but I highly doubt it.
My goal this fall is to get a better tire on the rear and see what she does on a dyno.
Thanks for the compliments all.

Re: 1986 Iroc Procharged 408
My experience is that drag radials overheat and get destroyed during a long dyno session with lots of tuning work. I've lost every set that ever went on dyno (3 sets). The tires overheat, throw chunks, and begin to disintegrate. Even if the tire lives, it will be worthless and not have traction after being cooked like that. I'm swapping wheels front to rear with my next dyno session.

Excellent Work!!! I wish I had your energy. LOL!
I'm debating a Whipple or Magna Charger on mine.

Re: 1986 Iroc Procharged 408
So I think it's time for some updates.
Car is running great. I've got the idle smooth, cruising is good, and for the most part acceleration is good.
I truly need better tires, it spins so easily that I can't get any quality data above a certain point. So tires are on the menu for the spring.
Until then I've been meaning to upgrade the radiator for a while now.
I've run a griffin for years, it's a universal fit one.
It was good N/A, but it started to show some signs when I initially procharged the 383, and now it's really struggling with 408. It doesn't overheat per say, but the fans run all the time. Doesn't matter the temp outside.
Fans are set to kick on at 200 and off at 190.
So I got this from C&R racing. I ordered it during their black friday sale.
It's a double pass, and is meant for LS swaps. Should drop right in place.

Re: 1986 Iroc Procharged 408
So I decided to give this new radiator fan setup a trial fit.
Removed the old setup:

The new one has these feet welded to the bottom that slip into the stock rubber radiator mounts.

As so:

And it's in. No problems. Fit is good. The fans are HUGE. I was able to drop it all in as one unit, a little heavy, but it saved time.
It's not fastened down in these pics because I'm going to take it back out to adjust my power steering lines a little and wrap those with something.
I may or may not modify the little rubber feet. It seems like it needs to move over to the driver's side more, but that could be the P.S. lines.
I measured for some hoses, so my search is on for those.
It's going to be interesting to see how my supercharger pipes are going to fit on the passenger side.
This will definitely free up the driver's side.

Re: 1986 Iroc Procharged 408
I found some radiator hoses that worked.
The upper hose is a Dayco 71730. No idea what car it's from. I think I trimmed ~ 1" off each end.
Lower hose is a Dayco 81490, this one is a universal fit and has a 90° at the radiator side. Again, probably trimmed ~1" off each end.
They don't leave you much room with this thing. The fans really take up a lot of space, which is good.
The other cool thing about the radiator is they have a 1/8" pipe fitting below the upper hose connection for the steam lines from the heads. Makes things much cleaner.
I've got to work on that next. And get ready to re-do my supercharging piping, haha.

Re: 1986 Iroc Procharged 408
I'll get some soon. I've been messing with the rear suspension as of late. Which brings me to my next project/update.
I have a Moser 9 inch and a spohn torque arm. I like the spohn piece but the rear bracket is so wide.
If you look back at the previous pics of the car/ videos you'll see the rear sitting up pretty good. Well that's as low as I can get it, the spohn bracket hits the body, or very little clearance.
So I finally got around to making my own piece. It's much narrower than the spohn. The spohn is 3" wide, mine is 2" wide. I also adjusted the mounting holes over ~3/8" to bring it closer to the driveshaft.
Sorry about the pics underneath the car, seems like they never turn out. I was able to drop the car a good 1"-1.5" from before and nothing is hitting as of now.
I don't have the shocks connected and was trying to bounce the car for all it's worth to get something to hit.
The top mount for the Moser torque arm bracket is ~1.5" from the body.
The new rear bracket fits much better up into the tunnel. It might look tight in the pics, but it is sooo much better than before. It was tough to get a good pic.
Right now I have it set as low as I feel comfortable with at the moment. I still need to adjust a few things and tighten everything up.
Worst case I have to raise it slightly.
