Anyone ever install a second level sensor?
I mistakenly posted this a few days ago in the engine swap section not the LSX section.
I've been reading for a while and I am thankful for all of the good info from you guys. I am doing the LS swap. I had a donor car so I am using the 4th gen, 2002, tank. I want to keep the EVAP system and use autometer gauges. Of course the PCM needs fuel level for EVAP and I can't use that signal for the Autometer. Autometer sells a part number 3262 level sensor. The instructions say you install by drilling a 1 1/2" hole in the top of the tank and install. It looks like it will fit. Has anyone ever done this? Thanks.

I received the sender today. The seal with it is good. I'm going to open up the tank tomorrow and see if it will work.

All of the work arounds we have tried to keep evap and stock gauges and no one has thought to run two level senders... you might be on to something.

OK, I installed it today. I was nervous about drilling into and ruining the tank. I put paper towels in the tank below where I drilled and that caught almost all of the shavings. It worked great. The hardest part was finding a place to install it that was perfectly flat without hitting something. The best part was I had purchased the programmable Autometer gauge. To program it you start with an empty tank and then finish by completely filling the tank. I set it by manually moving the float arm by reaching in the tank and now it is all set. The seal that came with it looks like it will do the job. I'm going to insulate those hoses above it so they don't rub.

VERY interested in this.
I bought a 4th gen tank for when I get ready to go turbos (ease of fuel pumps), and I was looking into hooking it up to the PCM like stock so it could even out the needle, as well as give me mpg/etc. when I upgrade my gauges. This might be a better option.

Re: Anyone ever install a second level sensor?
After driving for a couple hundred miles this isn't the most accurate fuel level reading setup. It works but the needle on the autometer gauge moves around a lot. I put in 9 gallons in the empty tank and the needle was below half. I drove it about 165 miles and put in another 13 gallons and the gauge went to 3/4 full. I'm now at about 260 miles on the build and the gauge is showing a little lower than half. I don't truly know how many gallons are in the tank right now. The needle moves a lot while driving when the fuel is sloshing around in there. Maybe I just didn't put the sensor in the tank in the best location. I don't have any evap purge codes and don't smell any fuel so it is sealed good at the top. Does anyone know if I can read the fuel level from the OBD plug with something? I just want to know how much is in the tank. Thanks.
