Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

(I moved this to the LTX and LSX subforum)

You say you got a 5.3 truck engine. Did you get the harness, PCM, and 2WD 4L60E with it?

If so, it's basically the same as any LS1 swap. Graft the harness into your chassis harness. Get VATS programmed out of the PCM. You won't have cooling fan control to the best of my knowledge - you may be able to repin the PCM connector and program into the PCM; not sure, didn't try on mine because I had manual fan control.

There's a link in the LS1 swap sticky in the top section of this forum regarding using a truck engine in a 3rd gen LSx swap for more details on the swap.

There is a lot of good information regarding LS engines in the forums on http://www.ls1tech.com

Having the whole donor vehicle is good. One thing that usually doesn't come with an engine/transmission drop-out is the harness fuse/relay box. Not too big of an issue with an EFI 3rd gen, but my swaps were all into factory carb'd cars. Even with an EFI car, the LS fuse box can be nice because it's already part of the harness (although you won't be using all of its functions).

Other small details:
- The 2.8 radiator won't be big enough to keep the 5.3 cool. A 3rd gen V8 will be fine, though.
- The truck 4L60E won't have provision to mount the torque arm. Since you'll need a tranny crossmember anyway, might as well get one with a TA mount built into it (Holley/Hooker just came out with what looks to me like a good unit - a couple of TGO members have used it with no complaints that I recall).
