Oil pump for LS swap
I'm doing an LQ9 swap into my 84 Firebird and figure since I'm freshening up the motor with new rings, seals and bearings I should do the oil pump as well.
I always see people posting about Melling or a factory pump that is ported and have read quite a bit about high volume vs high pressure, but has anyone used a Schumann pump?
I read a really good review about their energy recovery pump but damn...$600 for an oil pump!

Re: Oil pump for LS swap
Most LS builders recommend a standard pressure high volume Melling pump. You would only need the higher pressure unit if you had really loose clearances on your mains (.003X). This is an important part of any LS engine build but you don't have to spend a fortune to get the best part.

I've got two engines with a Melling. No complaints.

Re: Oil pump for LS swap
I have a standard melling oil pump as well and it has done great. If you want to save a few bucks buy the summit brand oil pump as it is a repackaged melling pump. Part number SUM-121170. It comes with both types of o rings too.
