Hey everyone,

I just built a 5.3 truck motor and got the whole top end together. I had ordered a new oil pan and pickup tube for an 98-02 camaro thinking everything would bolt up fine. However, after modifying the windage tray and getting the pickup tube mounted the pan is hitting the tube causing it to have a gap at the front of the motor about half an inch.

What am i missing?

Is the truck oil pump different than the car and causing the issue?
Is the pickuptube i ordered defective?

Pretty sure the oil pan is correct.

If anyone else has had this issue please send tips!

Thanks!

I would say double check the pickup tube. All I had to do was swap over the fbody stuff and it was done. Maybe they sent you the wrong pickup tube?

What windage tray are you using why did you have to modify it? Is the pickup tube set in the oil pump correctly?

I notched the pan for the pickup tube to mount. Guys I feel like such a noob, I realized that i needed to cut the truck pan. Everything bolted up perfect after that. I will post pictures soon

Re: HELP! 5.3 swap oil pan hitting pickup tube
The truck pan has a deeper sump but but it is not as wide (from the side) as the f-body pan. Meaning, the f-body pickup will not be in the ideal spot with a truck pan and will hit the floor of the pan. The f-body pan is fairly square from front to back with the truck pan being very L-shaped (side view again) I would buy an f-body pan and or get a truck pickup tube (super cheap). I wouldn't try to make a hybrid of the two.

I modified the truck windage tray to work with the f body tube and pan. THe tray originally was too long and was hitting the bottom of the f body pan. Once cut to length it bolted right up with no issues
