Can 2nd gen LS swap headers work?

1st post. DANG (Dumb A$$ New Guy) here. Swapping an LS/Powerglide into an '84 Z28 strictly for drag racing, so I don't mind altering things a bit. Probably going to end up with the Speedway Engineering long tubes but and I don't see many other inexpensive options.
I do see lots of 2nd gen options, how much of a difference is there between them? What kind of surgery is there to make them fit? I don't need the full exhaust system or O2 sensors since I'm going carb.
Thanks all.

Not generally.

how much of a difference is there between them?
About the only chassis thing that the 2 platforms share is the lower control arms. Those got re-used from earlier chassis; S trucks, A & G bodies, etc. all use the same ones. There's even shock absorber holes in ours even though our cars don't even have shock absorbers at all, they have struts instead. There's ALOT of difference in the chassis. Like, COMPLETELY different. It's not totally impossible that they might work butt it's bloody unlikely at best. There's a whole bunch of things that either exist in the one chassis (upper control arms, K-member, strut towers) that don't exist in the other; and the things that do exist in both (lower control arms etc.) are in quite different places or are different sizes. Seems unlikely that one design would fit both chassis, as radically different as they are.

inexpensive
It costs what it costs. I have no clue whether that would be "inexpensive" or not. It just IS whatever it IS.

What kind of surgery is there to make them fit?

The purchasing kind.

Just buy the speed engineering units if cost is an issue.

Re: Can 2nd gen LS swap headers work?

I got the Speed engineering ones, right side fit great, left side not so much. Header hits the oil cooler housing near the oil filter, I know I can get a block off plate or whack the tube with a hammer so that's an issue I can fix.
The main problem is the O2 bung on the collector is too close to the shift arm of the trans. It very nearly hits the arm which would prevent the shifter from going into park. Anyone else have this issue?
There is room for the collector to be shifted at least 1.5" over away from the trans which would solve both problems.
Contacted SE, they advised me of the block off plate and suggested a different shift linkage. Not really too helpful. The collector is still too close to the trans pan, heat would be a concern there, right?
