Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Thanks! Here's what i got in the mail today.

My rocker and rear bumper emblems should be coming soon, they also come with a silver nose, interior, and door handle emblems. I might find a place to put the nose interior, and door handle emblems someplace, as long as its not too much IROC-Z everywhere lol.

I also got my taillights polished. 1500 wet, then buffed with Mothers Plastic Polish. They turned out awesome! I miss my car alot, can't wait to get it back and all together!

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

I just read this thread for the first time. I can't truly express how good it makes me feel to see an IROC brought back to such high standards. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your future posts!

Being a Florida boy, I found the ac delete amusing. Not an option here with 90 degree heat and 90% humidity.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Thanks alot gator. LOL yea no AC in Florida would be horrible! Theres still alot of work to be done yet, but its hard with the car in the body shop. I'm just doing/ordering as much as i can without the car at home. Got to make a big order through hawks lol.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Sorry for the long break on pics guys, i lost my usb cable lol.

Got my lights all polished up! I used 1500 wet sand then Mothers Plastic Polish. I did the tails, third brake, side markers, and park lights. Turned out really good. I sanded the lettering off of the signal side markers up front too. The pics don't do them justice.

Then i did all the interior plastics. I used some 409 and steel wool and scrubbed away. It got down and cleaned into the texture and also smoothed out some little scratches.

I got all my emblems from Don at Making it Digital. I paid $65 shipped and the ones from Hawks for 80 are exactly the same. In fact he said he supplys all the aftermarket vendors

I got my ECM back with a semi-custom burnt prom installed. He deleted the smog, a/c, changed some spark/fuel tables, and did some other cool things including a rev limiter. I can't wait to plug it back in and see how it runs

Got a new grille today.

I think it'll be nice looking. I always liked the red bowtie grille better than the "camaro" lettering. Plus the red will match my paint.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

oh i've built a couple, first car was a 77 ford with massive holes rusted in it everywhere. it looked terrible when i got it, looked about like this when i sold it,Name: 000_0160.jpg
Views: 107
Size: 137.3 KB

also had a 92 that met its demise after an idiot drove me off the road, the bike i redid for my mom too,
Name: 101_1345.jpg
Views: 79
Size: 76.0 KB

i think my the big problem is i took a big hit after putting all the work in to my 1st 1 all to have some *** hole who cant drive ruine it in a split second, i haven't had my heart in rebuilding a car like i use to since. im getting back in to it though.

ps. my bad didnt mean to take up that space just didn't feel like re editing the size of my pics, cant wait to see your finished product, looks amazing.

Don't worry about space. Thats a beautiful 92 that you had! I'm sure your 89 will be just as good if not better.

Is that the actual truck you built up? Around here my whole "git r' done" family has lifted tons of trucks. My cousins got a nice Cummins lifted sky high, too bad the cops don't it lol. They use to race hobby B class too.

I need the AC box like you took out. I bought my car with no engine and I think the prevous owners pulled the engine with a back hoe and busted the box. Will be getting hot soon and I'll want the AC. Thanks

Well its all cut and buffed...IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!!! There isn't a speck of orange peel, the whole car is smoother than glass! Hopefully the pics show enough detail even though there was some dust on the car.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Glad you got the delete box flaming. And those fz's go like nuts!

How do you guys think clear side markers and parklights would look with this color red? Remember i'm not putting the stripes on and i got the 91-92 grille. I want to get ALL the parts so if i get it back on wednesday, i can get it together by thursday morning all said and done. I WANT TO DRIVE THIS THING!!!! oh, and take lots of pics for you guys!

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

pics is a definite must! she looks great, glad to see another beautiful 3rd gen on the road, they are getting to be far and few between.

btw my personal opinion would be to go with a smoked color side markers and smoke the rear lenses to then your car will stay red and black theme throughout (louvers, wheels and lenses). clear would also definetly look better than factory though.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Sorry no pics yet! The last two days i've been in the shop for a few hours. I got the hatch trim (that black steel trim goin around the glass), drip moldings, windshield wiper arms, door handles, door lock cylinders, louvers, t-top rail, and the t-top center bar all newly painted with satin black. It all turned out really good and those little details really make a difference! Then the new windshield got put in and the hatch seal. The metro-moulded brand hatch seal went on very easily.

Tomorrow i plan to get the door decals on, hatch, hood, louvers, bumpers, and some other little things together. I should be able to drive it home tomorrow!

Hell I'd trade my 89 iroc with the new drivetrain for a 305 car that's going to look as nice as yours any day of the week.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Got the car back today!!

Been workin on it all day.

I used strip caulk on ALL the speed nuts to keep them tight and prevent leaks. The t-top seals are GM and so are the window sweeps. I think i got everything aligned pretty good, more to do tomorrow.
