IROC -Z door decal photos
Heres the deal. I need some photos of cars with the IROC-Z decal showing. Preferable 88 to 90 cars .I need to compare it to my decal. Ive been told that the vinyl decal of GUNNER-1 on my car looks cheap So I decided to take that in to consideration. Some explanation of why I chose “Gunner” is my handle from the Marines.I guess I could change it as suggested but like to be different. Its a personal touch. Also this had some influence.
. Ive looked and only found photos that are hard to see. So can you guys help me out with the photos

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
Don't know if it makes a difference to you, but the IROC decals on the older cars (not sure the years) were toward the front of the door edge, later years it was toward the rear edge of the door. There's one of each pictured from the guys who sent the pics....maybe someone can tell you what years were what.... BTW - I like the Gunner decal.....

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
I had the GUNNER-1 decal removed and am leaving it bare for now.Except for the small IROC-Z badge on the ground effects. What a huge improvement. The door paint is like glass and looks incredible. Thanks for suggesting the removal.

ok, i have to ask, prison? how did you manage that?
very nice looking car. i agree with the consensus that the letters look ghetto to me. I personally like the factory lettering, or none would look good also. with the hood stripes and lowers painted red, no letters would look good too. at least there isn't a 'in memory of ...' on the back window

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
and i think with them on the lower part of the door, it shouldnt have much fade in a year. that is curved under a little, and exposed to the lease amount of direct sunlight, the worst being the hood roof and trunk or spoiler. there you might well see some fade and brighter red under the letters. my guess you'll have no problems if you take them off. of course you could peel a little of one off, maybe the " - " part to check first.

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
Yes, I did nave the GUNNER-1 decals removed and there were no problems with color fade. Looks allot cleaner. When I get the time and money I will put the IROC-Z from Phoenix Graphics on. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

whoever said 88 and newer had it to the rear that is correct. 87 was the last year of it being to the front of the door. I need to get new decals on my IROC at some point

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
The "Z" on the decal seems to be a little off ( slightly sloped) but that's the way the decal was made. Its like that on both sides. Maybe its gust me.Its barley noticeable.

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
I think that's just an optical illusion due to the diagonal middle section of the "Z." If you put a straight edge across top and bottom of the whole decal, I'll bet you'll find it's not sloped at all. Looks great BTW.

I wanted to paint my car some bright color that I like. I considered bright pink like the 70s mopars. Ooops, looks like that's been done already, as I saw one going down the road next to me:

No they are not OEM replacement. They never offered these in black but that's what I wanted. Bought them on eBay for $20.00.Other than the color they are the same design. Decent quality. The photos.not so great. Sorry.

Hey guys. Has anyone ever removed the old sticker decals from thier doors? When my Bro N Law gave me my IROC as a wedding gift, I noticed that my stickers are not where they are suposed to be. So any help would be great. Also, is there any GOOD vendor that sells GOOD IROC-Z decals? I found a few but I dont know if they made the decals with quality plastics. Thanks Andrew, "Chevy86 IROC-Z".

Well they are in the front section of the door, but they are WAY up towards the front. To get a better idea, follow this link to my picture album- https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/album.php?albumid=2335

Phoenix Graphics has a nice selection of decals. When I removed my decals I used a blow dryer to heat it up and lifted/ pulled them off with my fingernail/fingers very carefully.Try this link: http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm/8587iz.htm

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
I'm a little curious here... A number of you guys are saying that 88 was the first year that the IROC-Z was stationed to the back of the door vs front in 87 and earlier. My first Camaro was an 87 and it had its IROC-Z decals towards the back of the door. It also still had the original paint too.... My VIN confirmed it to be an 87 also.
regardless of where the decals were originally I think one I get decals for my 86 cut I'll definitely put them towards the back of the door as personally I think they look much better there.

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
soo.. what you are saying is someone most likely peeled off the original stickers and placed new IROC-Z decals towards the back of the door on this car. thats something that I had not noticed between the 84 Z28 and up. Will have to pay special attention to that next time I see some
Edited: I scrolled up and noticed that some of the front mounted door decals also stated IROC-Z I thought you had mentioned that the earlier years 84-87 had only IROC and not IROC-Z are these perhaps after market decals placed on the car(most likely after a paint job etc)??

Re: IROC -Z door decal photos
85 - 87 had "IROC-Z" towards the front. 88 and up had em towards the back. Maby the PO to your Camaro peeled the decals and moved them to the back. Unless the Camaro was repainted with the factory color and had new decals towards the back. Regardless of the situation, from the factory, 86 had the decals towards the front. But it's your choice man. It's your car and you can do as you please. I like to keep my look as genuine as possible.

Well... even though I wanted to keep my car looking as original as possible I've kind of strayed away from that a tad..... Once the ball got rolling its hard not to stop doing what you want to do and yet still keep the car looking as close as possible to original state. However... I do believe my car to be a bit more valuable now than if it were plain jane original like so many other people do. When upgrading stuff on my car I also tried to stress the natural body lines that the car has and also create a 2nd body line from the hood scoop to the rear wing.
this is an older picture prior to finnishing the hood work but still shows the new 2nd line
