Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

Very smooth. I'd like to see a shot of those wheels. I have a set of those in 16's on my berlinetta. Always wanted to know what they looked like in black.

It depends what I get for it. If I had or would get the original ones for them I would exchange them.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

How do you fill in the holes where the side spoiler pieces were? Did you weld little round pieces of metal? I'm not real familiar with body work or how to do it.

Looks like a great project.

How are you planning to have the hood latch? I like the concept, but I can visualize the structural part.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

i dont need to change anything for the hood latch. everything i have to take out is in front of that. the only thing i have to change is where the filter were before from the air intake. but i already have a solution for that.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

im going to work from the back of the car to the front to prepare it for the paint job later right now. as soon i get to the front of the car i will take down the front and start to change the design as well to what i planned. i also have a really crazy idea for the backlights of the car, but i will have to see how i could make this real.

I'm thinking up some ideas for custom fog lights now.
I've thought about the tails, but no ideas that i like too much now.
I'm gonna try and find a way to get 300zx z32 composite headlights in my camaro

HA HHA, no thanks. I was just curious. I don't really like them even on my berlinetta. I love the wheels on my rs, they're just a tad small. I'd like to find them in 15's or 16's.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

well dude, youve got me struck by your 5th gen looking front end.

I'm gonna try it.
Depending on how much pull-a-part wants for a front end, will decide how soon, but i'm thinking about getting a different front end for mine, and using the old one that was on it as an experiment. Since its stress cracked in the corners, and what not, it'll be my toy. If it works, and the bondo turns out good, i'll put it on.

After trying 4 different primers I finally found one that is useful. Couldnt work much on it the past weeks but now I work almost every day a few hours on it.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

today i started with the front of the car. its already cut out. looks way better already the car. at the same time, actually in this moment, i am working on a custom version of the rear bumper too. i cant just leave it how it is if i do something agressive in the front too. i had a pretty cool idea to make the back of the car looking bad*ss too

i gonna make some pics tomorrow of the front. i think i gonna do it more or less the same way as my friend which liked my idea and did the same hehe.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

A suggestion on your grinder...

It looks like your using a "thick" wheel, 1/4"? I've done that before & if you use a 1/8" wheel, the difference (using a 1/8" wheel instead of a 1/4" wheel) in the cutting is like night & day.
I'm sure you are, but for reference for others that read this....Buy a metal cutting disc. Masonry/concrete/stone wheels suck at cutting metal good.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

yeah but thats gonna be gone too. its going to be open completely later.

i worked 2 days on the bumper and trying different things to see what is possible and this is how its gonna look like:

i already work with fiberglas on it to close the pieces that i cut out.

its gonna look pretty close to that i think.

Lookin good, lookin good.. I'm still contemplating the front end mod now with the hood latch idea. i'm not so fond of the hood pins, and i dont know if i'm going to stick with the hood i have so i dont wanna mod it. i'ma wait around until i see someone do it and use the stock latch, then i'll try.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

It works perfectly fine with the regular latch. You could even cut out a part of the metal where the latch is mounted and weld it a little deeper, but I think i can make it without that too. About the latch itself, I just cit the big piece of it and a finger-wide part will stick out of whatever I use in the middle. Since everything is going to be black inside there, you wont see the latch anyways - unless you get down and take a look.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

its gonna look much better because of the extreme hood I create and some other things like the paintjob that im planning.

Today I worked on the T-Tops where I cut out some rost. Im closing it again with fiberglas. Already done.

On the weekend I gonna check if I get some parts from another Camaro that an Uncle of my wife have somewhere at his house. Seems to be another 87 Z28 5,7 that nobody cares about. I could need a door and the front right side of the car. I could fix it but it would be faster to just change the parts if I get them. I dont wanna waste any paint and work on the doors before I didnt checked if I may get them for free this week from another Camaro.

After that its gonna be the doors and then the entire front. Today I met somebody here that will help me with the roll cage, so I dont have to pay insane 500 Dollars for shipping and I can design a custom one how I need it hehe.

eventually the bondo will crack in the places you covered those holes with.. did it on my 82 before she got totalled... in about a year the bondo cracked in perfect circles... proper way to do it is to weld...

eh nevermind... so good so far

we're going to weld my spoiler holes up too. we were considering bondo, but they're really too big to bondo.

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

the size doesnt really matter, i mean its not like its deep. you have to have a structure from the inside first of course and then u cover the rest. but now that u started to work again with fiberglas (even if i hate that stinky and unhealthy ****) i should have done it with that. but i still can do. i am going to make some big changes on the side of the car before it get painted anyways and there is gonna be a lot of welding so maybe i just take the bondo out again and to it different. we will see. for me it was important to get rif of how the car looked before with the rost and 20 different leverls of paint.

back to the daytona 500. go montoya!!

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

After trying all kind of different silver colors for the inside, I finally decided for that one. The floor, the roof, basically everything that is metal inside will get this color combined with the dark black of the dash board and aluminium for the gauges and buttons.

Looks good. Im about to fill the holes on my spoiler this week from the old skateboard spoiler. I bought a 3 piece from the pull a part for 20 bucks.. Did you end up bondoing or welding your holes?

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

no i think it will be ok. there is something from the inside that should hold it and i just filled up the rest with bondo. i mean even if you weld you will have to fill it up anyways or not?

Re: The Project: Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5,7

still the same like i planned it but i am thinking about to cover the entire inside including the lights with either black plexiglas or black grille like that mercury from the 60s. i am going to start with that soon. i need to check that other camaro first to see if i can use parts of it.

edit: like here but more modern:

Sorry I got the question wrong cause I read too fast. I made it with a structure from the inside and closed with bondo.
