my son and i were getting our cars ready to go to a fbody meet tonight . I was going to be the first time teh Iroc has been out. we spent the last few days finishing it up getting a few things right. new fuel pump and regulator. and a few odsds and ends. he was taking his 82 MSE T/a and i was taking my 468 BBC Iroc well it was running and sudenly quit couldn't get it to fire up again no spark my son figured it was teh module in the distributor so he headed up got a new one we swapped it out still no spark I thought about it for a few minutes and took the cap off and had him tap it over . heres what i found first pic is of the car cleaned up . I think there is suppose to be something on the end of the distributor.

i could be wrong but being that the shaft of that distributor come to a point almost like a flathead screwdriver, doesnt that mean the gear is down in the bolck and fits over the end of that distributor? look down the hole and see whats down there. and just remove the cap and crank it and see if the rotor moves.

Did you look down the intake and see the gear? Be shitty if you have to tear the motor apart just for that 1 piece. Never know, could be sitting there perfectly fine and the gear pin just failed!

yea i looked couldn't see it even tried a magnet to get it didn't work but i took my oil pump primer and stuck itin the hole to see if the pump rotates cause something had to happen to cause the pin to fail well the pump doesn't spin. so probably the pump sucked something up out of the pan. a few months ago I had a lifter break and my son disassembled the intake to replace the lifter I am thinking he didn't get everything. I had mentioned at the time i needed to pull the motor to drop the pan to make sure nothing went down inside it. he told me he had all the pieces that made up the busted lifter. so i moved on got it back together it ran good tuned it up had it running for a long time moved it a few times in and out of the garage. but i guess yesterday something must have been in the pan got sucked up in the pump and locked up the pump which stopped the pump shaft and distributor but the rest of the motor was still spinning so it sheared off the roll pin. the distributor is a MSD Street fire
so now i have to pull it out which with the 7 quart pan is a pain in the ars put it on the stand drop the pan drop the pump replace the pump probably get a new gear for the distributor. possibly the cam is the teeth got messed up don't know until pulled. while the motor is out i might as well shave and smooth the firewall repaint the block and do all the dress up again the way i want to. I will also replace the oil pan this time for one that fits better the pan i have hangs the same height of the kmember and has about 1/8 of an inch clearance between the kmember and the pan you can not put the motor in with trans attached because of it. while it is out i might as well swap out to a hydralic throw out bearing also to make more room since the slave cylindar is close to the headers. so i guess i will be taking my time to get it done with a few changes this time.

Good thing that pin failed. If the ignition kept the motor running you would of had a pretty nice knock on your hands.
