I would've, but It's impossible to find a site that doesn't charge!

Yeah, I'd say that's more than likely the original paint! I was perplexed to whether or not it had a respray because of the headlight buckets, but GM didn't paint the buckets black after '87, so that makes sense! Like bigdave said, you legally STOLE that car.

Re: Barn find!

Looks great. You've got a lowly optioned base model 87 RS that's in fantastic condition with a questionable drivetrain. I think the solution is obvious - you swap in a cheap v8 swap. You could go 305... but I think it'd be neat to go LT1. You could probably get a full LT1 swap done for $1000-$2000. I'd stay with the 700r4, though. T56 swaps will add a lot of complexity and cost. But you can get an LT1 with ecm etc for $500-$1000. Throw a cheap hotcam in it and you've got yourself a 12 second barn car for less than $3k.

Plus, with so little invested and having a modern, fuel injected 350 on top of it that could smoke even bolt on L98 cars, you could probably flip it for a small profit if so inclined.

Im not a huge LT1 fan, but they have a niche where they are very effective budget swap options.

Actually, black headlight buckets are exclusive to Z28s and IROCs of all years.

Re: Barn find!

Looks like a great find, I say drop the 305 and good trans in and go. No sense in messing with the V6 IMO

Re: Barn find!

The floors are solid just some paint peel under there. I would do the LT swap but right now im a 24yr old buying a house so I've gotta make due where I can. I'll throw my vortecs (ported and polished and milled for higher compression already) on it and maybe throw in a hotcam and paint it all and go. I'm not at all interested in speed because I hate getting pulled over...

I feel ya. Bought a house @ 25 and saved forever for it. 28 now and doing an LS swap. Bought a 4-post lift, cars, bikes, and all the man toys I can.

With your own place you can do whatever the hell you want. I'm also originally form Indiana so I know you guys have some sweet home prices there.

So you're saying sport coupes, standard Camaros, and RS's had black buckets up until '88, but IROC's and Z-28's had them no matter what year?

Or black buckets themselves are only stock on IROC's and Z's?

Re: Barn find!

Yeah home prices right now are crazy cheap! We have a house we're looking at appraising at $80,000 that we can pick up for 35. There are multiple houses in this county going for $13,000. I would like to have a lift eventually but for now that isn't in the cards. This house does have a nice 2 car high roof garage, though.
