Near misses

How close have you come to wrecking your 3rd gen without actually doing any damage?

I was driving home from work one day, been driving this piece of road for over 20 years. The road I was on has a hill with a blind curve. Came around the curve doing about 50mph. (Speed limit is 55) Just into the straightaway when traffic came to an instant dead stop. Whipped the wheel hard left, locked the brakes, slide sideways into the oncoming lane. Missed the car in front of me be a few inches. Found myself rolling backwards, car stalled, in the other lane. Thank God there was nothing coming the other way or I would not be typing this. Got the car restarted and pulled into a driveway to get my heart rate back to normal. One of the few times I was scared enough to actually be shaking.
I remember rolling backwards past a car and the person looking at me with eyes WIDE, like Holy $#!&.

The reason that traffic was stopped? State highway maintenance was trimming back the brush along the road...........

(Mods if theres a better place for this feel free to move it.)

Re: Near misses

Wow.

Excuse my ignorance, but what caused the car to stall? Was it because the gasoline had moved to the back of the tank and the engine didn't get any fuel?

Not exactly sure. I kinda figured it was because I went from going forward at 50mph to about 15mph in reverse. I was thinking it was some kinda safety mechinism in the tranny that killed the engine, but I am probably way off base.

Re: Near misses

Wow, I really would've expected this thread to be a bit more popular. Especially with a site full of F-Body owners.
