I agree with ya. They don't get much love. This car is originally a Sport Coupe, which it looks nothing like it did now. It's getting painted at the Maaco in Acworth. Believe me, I checked out their work before making the decision. They just finished a red Iroc a couple weeks before mine and it was beautiful. It's on their website actually if you look them up on FaceBook.....Maaco Acworth. Then I saw this Berlinetta transform from original dark blue to a full color change to that Metallic Blue and that was it. I could see the care and good work they do.
Keep us updated.

Like I said, the Iroc they just painted is beautiful, not to mention that Berlinetta. Here's a pic of the Iroc they painted and it was in worse shape than mine.

I know, I was a little leery. But when I saw the cars they were working on and the quality of the bodywork and paint, I was impressed. This particular Maaco seems to do quite a few restorations, not just insurance stuff.

Re: Breaking her down for paint / mild restore.
Thanks. Not too much done to the car today either. Got to bring home all my painted parts though. So that's pretty cool. The body guy said he'd be finished with the body work and it should be in high build primer Monday. Tuesday it will get blocked out. So [fingers crossed], it might see paint by maybe Wed of next week. I can only hope...

Re: Breaking her down for paint / mild restore.
I worked on some of my parts that I removed from the camaro today. I'm keeping the hatch carpet and replacing the cabin carpet. So I used my "Better than Dyson" Vacuum and my Hoover Steam Cleaner and man the rear carpet turned out nice.

Here's what I used.

Here's the nasty water that was left over, and this is after it was thoroughly vacuumed. Yecth..

Both of my tail lights are now refinished. There's the final product.

Here's what I used. Turtle wax headlight restorer kit, Krylon Fusion Semi_Gloss Black Paint and Duplicolor Clear

I also worked on both T-tops.
The driverside was a replacement from the local junkyard since one of mine shattered for no reason. I took the interior handle and trim off and repainted both. I lubed up the mechanisms on both and sanded and repainted the outside trim.

Hopefully tomorrow when I stop by the bodywork will be done and it will be in primer we'll see. I'll be able to order my weather stripping for the t-tops and doors, and my carpet next weekend.

Thanks! I think so too.
I am planning on using the Turtle Wax Headlight Lens Restorer on my instrument cluster lens. Hope that will take care of some pretty nasty scratches the previous owner/s put on it. Tried the product on my Ram 1500 headlamps but the results left a lot to be desired.

Re: Breaking her down for paint / mild restore.
Stopped by today and all the initial body work is done. They have that in high build primer with a guide coat. Tomorrow it's gonna get all blocked and if they are satisfied with the bodywork the whole car will go into primer. So I'm still hoping for paint, maybe sometime Wed. IDK. It would be killer if it were done by the end of the week. Anyway, today's progress...

That's probably all for today's update.

Re: Breaking her down for paint / mild restore.
I'm in. I'd like to see how this goes. I had an 89 RS 'vert color changed from gunmetal grey to metallic teal at Maaco and it was great for about 5 years, then it started fading. I didn't have a clearcoat put on. My mistake.
Can't wait to see this one finished.

Yeah, this is getting 3 coats of their High Performance Clear. I always take real good care of the paint on my cars, so I hope it lasts a long time.

-Finally back after some super fun wisdom teeth yanking-
Glad to see updates on your project ... the taillights look amazing! I'm about to do the same thing to the ones on my IROC , but they seem to have overspray paint on them that I need to remove ... blah.
Any particular method / secret you used? (I'll be searching posts across the boards as well.)
When I get home from work tommorow you better have some paint pics up

Re: Breaking her down for paint / mild restore.
I'm off work tomorrow, so I'll be stopping by around lunch time. They had 1 car in line ahead of mine for the booth so IDK what time they will start on it. I talked to the painter today and he's gonna lay down the black base coats first and after that's dry, he will tape that off and shoot the red. When that's dry, it'll get 3 coats of their high performance clear, then off to the over for 40 mins. After that I can take it home. I hope they really get to it tomorrow like they said. That would be nice. And of course I'll have pics of as much as I can.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled about 25 years ago. I had 5 of them actually, so I guess that makes me really smart.

As far as the tail lights, I followed the directions for the turtle wax headlight restorer and spent probably 5 mins on each level of pad. Then I used the polish that came with the kit. After that I taped up all the grids with painters tape, wiped everything down with prep all and put 3 coats of the Krylon Fusion. Untaped everything and layed down 3 coats of clear. They look really good. Hope that helps.

Re: Breaking her down for paint / mild restore. PAINTED!!
Well, this is a big teaser post for you and for me. First off, the car is painted and looks sick.
Bad news, they were just starting the first coat of clear when I got there today. I won't be able to see it finished tomorrow.
BUT!! I do have pics of the paint and 1st coat of clear going on...
The pics are foggy cause the clear is a flyin...
Some pics the clear hasn't been sprayed yet...
Drum Roll Please ................................................................

That looks alot better than I thought it would. Are you going to use a grey stripe between the two colors?

Re: Breaking her down for paint / mild restore.
Thanks everyone for the compliments. I should have her home today unless they find anything in the paint to fix. I should have some really good pics for you tonight. Now I just have to put her back together. I should be able to order my weatherstripping and carpet today or tomorrow. After that I'll still need to order emblems and new parking lights to finishe the outside. That will have to wait for more funds though.

just to let you know Car looks great by the way . but you can run down to summit and get the weatherstripping. it's soft seal weatherstripping I used it on the iroc and worked pretty good . I want to say it was 158 for it. that way you can get to putting it back together this weekend . as for parking lights unless your going with tinted ones or yours are broke I polished mine here's a photo of it . how i did it was i hit them with 2000 grit until it felt smooth then tool the wool pad on my 7 in polisher set it on hte floor held it with my foot pulling the trigger with my foot and held teh lenses on the pad until polished .

I'll be picking the car up tomorrow. They had a few spots that had a little trash in the paint that they are gonna wet sand and buff out. I'm going to have them do the whole car, but not until spring probably. They only charge $300 to wetsand and buff the whole car but it will have to wait. Gotta pay for a family vacation and then Xmas is right around the corner too.
Enough bantering, here's the pics of it in the sun. It looks gorgeous!! I am having them put a charcoal stripe on one panel for me to look at tomorrow. I'm leaning towards them putting it on to break up the paint a little. Plus it has charcoal interior, so it will go with the car nice.

Thanks for the tips. I did polish them, but they still don't look new enough for me + I want to go with the tinted ones.

Ask and thy shall receive. I went ahead and had them do it and they texted me some pics. It definately needed it and it looks great. IDK if it's charcoal or silver from the pics, but I like it.

Thanks guys. I like it and already told them to do the whole car. As long as the clearcoat is hard enough, they will be fixing the handful of debris spots tomorrow and I should be able to pick it up. (assuming it doesn't rain since i have no weatherstripping for the t-tops or doors yet). That would suck.
