1990 Camaro RS - 2nd Owner
I just picked this up today for my son.
1990 Camaro RS 305 TBI Unmolested. It has all the paperwork with it as well as the Cassette Tape and the Original Touch Up Paint that was mailed out to the new owner in the box yet. 96K on the odometer. I even have that plastic key that was in the owners manual.
Going thru everything to make sure it all works so far. Replaced a couple of fuses and some light bubs. No rust under the car or anywhere else that I can find. It will need a respray sometime though.
My dilema is do I leave it like it is or mod it I would like to take off the A.I.R. system to get better access to the plugs. And maybe some other things.
Just got it home and put it in the garage for inspection.
Front view
Interior
Engine Compartment
Some of the paperwork.
1st Coat of Wax on Original faded paint. Just on the hood and fender.

Re: 1990 Camaro RS - 2nd Owner
Thanks I like the color as well.
Yesterday I removed the AIR Pump and Hoses. Plugged the exhaust Manifolds and bought the longer belt and rerouted it. Just like I did when I had a 89 IROC 5.7L TPI I also Changed the Oil and Filter. Used some Mobil 1. Did some more detailing on the engine compartment, a ongoing process.Next up, Cap, Rotor, Wires and Plugs. Then a Tranny and Rear End Service.
This is the engine compartment after the removal of the AIR Pump system.

Did some more work.
Replaced the original coil
Here is how I mounted the MAT sensor into the Open Element Air Cleaner.
Air Cleaner, Waiting on a new breather for the passenger valve cover.
Began changing the original wires, plugs, cap and rotor.

very nice car. you dont see them unmolested like this anymore. if it were mine, i would not mod it. i personally would enjoy the car as is, the way gm presented it to us.

Changed the plugs, wires, rotor and distributor cap. All were original. Then I took the my son out and have him drive it for the first time. Drove 20 miles all together. First time driving with his learners permit. Did a real good job.
Have to get a new tensioner, the bearing on the old one began making noise.
Tranny and rear end service up next.
New stuff installed.
Inside of the old cap. I can't beleive it even ran with this.

I would do like Cam said, leave it stock. Dont yank off anything. Its already just a cruiser, the less weight aint gonna make any difference. Thats just me though, its getting more and more rare not seeing a unmolsted 3rd gen now a days.

Re: 1990 Camaro RS - 2nd Owner
It's nice the way it is really, I would not mod it too much, but at the some time it's a 90 RS with almost 100K on the clock. What matters is you guys have fun with it. I know I'm having a good time working on my 92 so far. Also not to be a downer, but if this is his first car it's going to get screwed up-no matter how good of a kid he is, just happens to young peoples cars-been there done that.

Re: 1990 Camaro RS - 2nd Owner
Yea that does cross my mind alot. I am not going to mod it beyond the stuff that I have already done, just a new radio, window tint and new tires and a respray.
First coat of new undercoating on the pass front wheel well to refresh the factory stuff.
The new exhaust showed up today, to replace the original rusty exhaust.

Re: 1990 Camaro RS - 2nd Owner
Put on the new exhaust. The intermediate pipe was not that bad to do.
Had to drop and remove some things to get it over the axle.
While I was under there I cleaned up the area and freshened it up.
We also bought a set of Deluxe Seats for it. We cleaned and installed the front ones. Waiting on the part from Ebay so we can install the rear splitbacks.

The parts showed up to replace the rain seals, ordered the weatherstripping for the t-tops also as you have to remove it to replace the seals.
Also put in a new deck and 4 speakers last week. Waiting on a subwoofer enclosure to complete the audio project.
old seal
New seal and weatherstripping installed. Passenger armrest is off getting fixed.
Passenger side up next.

The Camaro is off at the body shop getting repainted Maui Blue. In the meantime the new 91-92 Z28 Grill showed up.
Body Shop is Charging $1500.00 Labor and we supply the primer, paint and clear. My wife manages a Auto Parts store which sells DuPont products.

Back from the Body shop with new paint. While there and it was apart we installed a new grill and park lights.
I also cleaned up the rims and had new tires put on all around.

Re: 1990 Camaro RS - 2nd Owner
Just bought a 88 GTA with the WS6 package. Hail Damage. Going to strip it for parts. My son wants a bigger motor. the TA has 91K on it. Also has the aluminum driveshaft and a BW 9 bolt posi rear end.
To bad it has hail damage, was a nice car.

No I sold it when I had the opportunity to buy this. My son drove it till he graduated and bought himself a different car and gave it back to me.
