My build thread...

About time I got around to posting a build thread. I had done this with all my other cars I own so I guess I should do it on this one.

My car is a 1987 Iroc fully loaded with all options. According to the RPO codes, there isn't an option my car did not come with. I acquired this car in early February 2013 on a trade deal. The previous owner said the car had a fresh engine, and ran good and all this jazz. To make a very long story short, it ran like crap and had a rod knocking. It did come with the numbers matching block and heads but alot of the internals where missing.

After determining that the engine in it was a loss I decided to build the numbers block up. Had the block and heads fully machined and tossed together a 383 stroker block for the car. I tore out the 700R4, took it to a local legend who is known for building bullet proof transmissions and after a few $$ I now have a solid 700R4 moving her. The interior was damn near mint when I got the car. Exterior has it's share of small issues and there is some rust starting around the door handle and wheel well areas. There is also rust considerable where the factory scissor jack goes on the pinch rail. Overall it's not that bad of a foundation for a nice Saturday Night Special. My plans are to repaint the car, do a few minor alterations to the interior to mondernize it like removing the factory bose and installing an aftermarket stereo and speakers.

As it sits right now, I still have quite a bit of engine electrical wiring that needs hooked up and cleaned up. The PO did a mess of a wiring patch job with none of the fan sensors hooked up and wiring pieced together all over the car. He also had the alternator on the driver side with extension wiring put in place which was a total mess.

Next I need to finish installing the new trans speed gear as my buddy helping me yank the engine broke the plastic snout where the speedo cable screws in. I also purchased the spohn cross member, torque arm and rear tubular control arms and as soon as they arrive I will need to install those. For now I will just use the stock parts until these arrive.

I also need to finish the cooling system install, been waiting until I get everything else wrapped up first as I don't want to put any marks or bend fins on the aluminum radiator. Last but not least I will need to get it tuned. I am going to send it out to Brian (Tuned Performance) for the initial setup of the prom and then I will fine tune it as I log and drive it. This car should be a beast when it's finished. When I get tired of the Saturday night stop light fun, given I built the bottom end forged, I should be able to boost this and have a relatively reliable engine.

I really wanted to do alot more but I opted for getting it finished at beginning of summer over sitting in garage collecting dust. Our lease is also up in 2 months and I want to make sure this runs under it's own power so it can be driven to the new house we buy as opposed to trying to figure out how to get it transported to the new place. So for now, it's a rush to finish putting it back together so the scuffs and scratches in the engine bay as well as crappy wire looms will have to wait until we get moved.

Future plans include pulling the engine back out and paint the engine bay and clean up the wiring to a hidden state. I will more than likely do this in my new house sometime this winter.

Just a couple quick pictures of the motor in the bay and body, I have a ton more and I will update this thread as I get them uploaded in the next day or so.
