'Powerbulge' Hood
I think this might be the real powerbulge

Found this at a swap meet in Portland this spring. I just put a new voodoo cam in and was ready for a little appearance change as well.

Re: 'Powerbulge' Hood
Is it actually functional? would be so bad if it wasn't so tall
----------
Kinda looks like a bigger version of a 80-81 Z-28 air induction scoop

God damn, is that hood a custom job, or does some place sell that?
but on topic, that hood is freaking sick.

Re: 'Powerbulge' Hood
Not sure who made it. It does appear to be pretty good quality. I have never seen another like it. While I would have preferred an IMSA hood, I came across this at the Portland swap meet this spring and thought I would run it for a while. I still have the factory hood that I can swap on when I want.
It is rather large though. It ramps up to a full 4" at the cowl. It sure gets lots of attention.

Re: 'Powerbulge' Hood
If it had followed the "grooves/creases" in the stock hood (like a Jongbloed Camaro hood does), I'd say GREAT! Not a bad looking hood really.

Sillybird,
I got the seats from Summit. I understand that you can get the same ones from the Kragen/Schucks for pretty cheap.
Stephen,
The hood does have the two primary creases diagonally down each side just like the factory line although they don't show up that well in the pics.
I know opinions are mixed but thanks for the compliments guys.

Is it all steel? OEM steel, and a fiberglass bulge? Or all fiberglass?

Re: 'Powerbulge' Hood
Bandit,
I'll keep that in mind
Stephen,
Thanks for the clarity on the creases - gotcha. It is fiberglass all around. There is some metal for the hing mounts and the glass seems to be pretty well reinforced. I wish I knew who made it - quality seems to be pretty good.
I feel your pain on the search for a good fiberglass hood. I have submitted a few ideas to diff companies but for a one-off they said I am talking $5-6k so that isn't going to happen. I probably like the factory T/A hood best but it is kinda fun to change the look up a bit.

Re: 'Powerbulge' Hood
That is interesting. They are the same ones that told me the price would be so outrageous it wasn't worth it.
I have always liked the early 2nd gen formula hoods with the dual rounded scoops. So I grafted the hood scoops from the recent GTO (like 2006) onto a thirdgen T/A hood. I think that it could look pretty nice if done right. I still might get a wild hair and just try it myself. Those GTO hoods aren't just lying around though - pretty much in demand. I need to find one that is ruined without any damage to the scoops.

Re: 'Powerbulge' Hood
Nice find. Looks pretty good..especially with those seats.
Put me on your list too if you you decide to sell it. It would make a nice backup in case I ever wreck the ront end of mine, destroying the isma. Your car even looks to be almost the same color.

Re: 'Powerbulge' Hood
How tall is your IMSA cowl? 2"?
Also, what does the back of the cowl look like? Have any pics?
Thanks,

Cool. I am out of town right now but when I get back toward the end of the week I will snap a pic and post it up.
Basically it is flat like yours but there are holes in it.
Thanks for the reply.
