I picked this car up Monday for $2000. It runs good, and drives good. It's in surprisingly good shape. Other than the driver's seat and dash pad, and a couple small pieces, the interior is in good shape (I didn't clean it before the pic). Obviously, it needs a new fender and door; shouldn't be hard to find. And a new pass side taillight...the one on the car is cracked. The floors are clean, and besides the dented panels, is pretty straight.

But, it's a 350 TPI...that counts for alot!

Its strange... You have the Gold GTA Wheels, the GTA emblems on the fenders, and B pillars, and nose, the tail lights appear to be legit GTA. You also have the Ultima seats and the GTA Map pocket. You even have the plain Fenders which would be GTA.

THEN you have TRANS AM bumpers and your headlights "PONTIAC" is Chrome where it should be Gold. AND you have a stripe which I did not think was available on the GTA. It looks like a good deal, but from the pics I cant tell what it is or was. My bet is it is a GTA with a Trans Am front bumper & HEadlight bezel.

Looks like it might be worth fixing up... ESPECIALLY if you have the RPO's to show that the Gold stripe is original.

Nice looking car.
I agree that the front fender should probabily need to be replaced.
But it almost looks like you could fix the door without too much work.
Which might also save you some money that you could spend on something else.

We always seem to have that "something else" to spend money on.

Yeah the stripe caught my eye right away... But, that stripe tape was readily available from GM...and some people liked it.

A tag in the front might have caused the headlight bezel to get busted. Maybe someone added the TRANS AM stickers? I agree...check the RPOs, see what was original. If the sticker wasnt supposed to be there, Ide ditch it. I never liked that dot matrix thing. I have it on my 86 and it'll be comin off.

Looks like a nice car for the money though! If there isnt much rust on it, Ide say clean her up, fix the few problems, and enjoy her!

Yeah, about the RPO codes...that sticker is gone. It;s actually kinda funny cuz my buddy has an 88 GTA that also is missing it. So neither one of us is positive on whether or not we own a GTA. But I can pretty much bet it is. It has the rear disc brake setup and all that. But even if it isn't, I don't care.

The car also has the rear trans am decal on the bumper. it is weird. I like them, but I have no way of proving it's factory. Maybe I can somehow get a copy of the original invoice? I know the dealer it came from brand new. Maybe I'll see if they are still around.

The "PONTIAC" headlight emblem looks silver in the pics, but it IS gold.

To get to the RPO codes contact the Pontiac National Historical Society and give them the VIN to the car and they can pull the RPO codes.

Re: New project car..1987 TransAm GTA
Wow dude, thats a really strange GTA

Two things that stick out like a nasty thumb are the gold body stripes, and the Trans Am badges

But then again, you have GTA steering Wheel, GTA Map pocket, GTA Emblems (Right color too!) GTA Gold Rims (Dimpless 87 ONLY rims, which is good proof), GTA seats, GTA only Fenders, fully loaded to the tit...so

You have a real GTA in my opinion and i LOVE the black on black interior...sick

I think you would have to be pretty crazy/obsessive to fake this one...

I went through the same thing when trying to authenticate my 1987 GTA...because it was strange too (350TPI and T-tops) but turns out its the real deal "Canadian GTA"
