PICS: wax day

i took advantage of the nice weather and gave both my cars a decent wax. no interior shots or underhoods because, in addition to my car, i also waxed my ladyfriend's K-9 police car. anyway, onto my cars. ignore the fat guy in the middle, that's me!

LEFT: 1992 firebird, 3.1 V6 + 5speed combo = good mileage, starts every time, and no, i'm not interested in putting a different motor in it!!! now that we've established that, i used meguiar's cleaner/wax on this, as the re-paint is kinda fragile and i'm terrified to try anything else on it right now. still shines up pretty good and gets me a ton of compliments whenever i drive it.

RIGHT: 2002 grand marquis, stock except for a J-mod (shift kit) and the mustang wheels. i used turtle wax platinum on it, because someone gave me a free bottle and i didn't want it to go to waste. if anyone cares, i'll be doing dual exhaust later this year, and possibly window tint.

hope i'm not breaking the rules here, but there are non-Fbody shots in here too:

those ford wheels were shipped to my door, mounted and balanced, for $650. i figured that was a decent deal, especially since i was planning on color-matching the wheels to the car until i found out they actually basically matched.

the trick to those wheels was getting hubcentric spacers made from billet aluminum, 1.5" in the front and 2" in the back. gives the car a better stance. a lot of the other grand marquis/crown vic guys don't do it right and go 1.25" all the way around, just using non-hubcentric spacers. not only does it look bad, but they end up breaking lug studs in the long run.

and thanks, everyone for the rest of the nice things y'all said. i'm blushing.

While he says he's kidding, it's on the tips of all of our tongues. But good for you for sticking to your guns on the 3.1L. You should know by now you can't put "3.1L" anywhere on this forum (except for maybe the 6 cyl board) without anybody saying "swap the motor!" LOL.

Re: PICS: wax day

the v-sucks is always destined to take crap from the faster F-bodies. but that's okay.

my first car ever was a 2.8 1987 firebird. it was my favorite car ever. so, of course, the 3.1 is right up my alley as far as being similar in performance (a little quicker than the 2.8, obviously). so while most people would wanna get rid of it ASAP, it's just something from my past that suits me nicely for now.

believe it or not, out of my two cars, the mercury is the one i'm planning on turning into the haul-*** machine. bolt-ons abound for it, i've owned it (almost) since new, and for 85k on the clock it is in amazing shape....

Re: PICS: wax day

^ Thinking of going back to a 3.1 myself, just to have a little fun with one. Had two last year that I parted with, but Dave kind of peaked my interest in them all over again, Click Here.

Re: PICS: wax day

I had a 2.8L V6 Camaro once too.

I respect keeping the 3.1L--but if you ever get the urge to be different...and still keep a V6 in it....

Swap in GMs 304HP 3.6L DI V6 and go spank LT1 F-bodies
