Picked this car up from the original owner who is also a board member. '91 GTA L98 700R4, appears to be a fully loaded hard top car (I have still not ran the RPO codes). Car came equiped with ported aluminum heads, 1.6 roller rockers, Crane cam, miniram intake, headers and full exhuast, etc. etc. The car is in really great shape inside and out, virtually no rust, and has been stored in a garage and not winter driven.

The bad news is the car has an engine knock under load, a light ticking which sounds like a wrist pin to me. The previous owner rebuilt the top end thinking that was the problem but apparently that was not the case. The hood was not on the car when I picked it up and the first thing I did when I got it home was to remove the bra it had installed on it. The hood is now on, but it needs a little bit of adjustment to close up the front gap.

I had no intention on purchasing another third gen, but this one fell into my lap and I couldn't resist. It needs a good polish and wax, and a good interior cleaning and vacuum, but it is pretty clean as is. Here is some pictures, let me know what you think!

I think you should sell me the tail lights....hahahaha j/k. Awsome clean car you got. Thats a TPIS Mini Ram Intake. Im deciding between that & a HSR setup.

Those are the stock lights for the '91-'92s. Earlier years have the red reflective bar across the bottom. Its the prime reason lights from those two years are so expensive.

ok well it is probably a good thing this car has been garage kept. I'll clean up those tails, coat them up with some protective polish, and keep them out of the direct sun and reduce them to any unnessessary expose when I'm not out tearing up the asphalt!

When you get her running well, let me know how that TPIS Mini Ram does. Im torn between that & the HSR. I might get both since i have 2 TPI cars. All depwnds on the cash flow.

Nice ride Brisk! And the cupholders on the doors are intact too! Not something you see often haha. As for the RPO codes, just punch in your VIN into compnine and it'll tell you what that thing's got. Do you have disks in the rear?

Re: picked up a project, '91 GTA
took it for a short drive to the gas station and back and the light ticking turning into a chest thumping 'bang bang bang' once the engine came up to temperature... so it is more then a wrist pin, probably a crank bearing or something similar, definately in the bottom end.

Re: picked up a project, '91 GTA
I bought it knowing it had a knock in the bottom end with full intention of repairing/replacing the engine. I'm currently working on getting my '91Z put back together with a fresh 383TPI and I will have to finish that before I can start work on this car because I just don't have room to do them both at once.

I am debating right now on whether I should stick in a rebuilt 350 I have and drive it that way for the time being, or pull the stock motor, repair it, and then drive it...

Re: picked up a project, '91 GTA
Well for now I'd just have the GTA as a burnout/abuse toy... considering that the engine is screwed either way.

Re: picked up a project, '91 GTA
it won't take any abuse without the fear of it throwing a hole into the block, something I'd rather not happen.. no sense wrecking a perfectly good numbers matching motor.

Brisk, you have one of my favorite set of cars... Awesome camaro's, and now a 91 trans am? Sweet! I plan to stop my collection with a C4 vette, and an Ls1 91-92 Formula, GTA, or z28...

Yeah good idea, and I just noticed that the car must be extra-rare where you're from.
