Looks good so far! What are the specs of the engine? And are you going carb or tpi?

By the Edelbrock intake I am sure he is going with carb. Forget pics of the car btw, more pics of Mel.

Re: after sitting 20 years, my 1985 trans am restoration
its a gm crate 350 for pre 86 cars. nothing special but 100 more hp than what came in the car lol.
it was a Canadian 1985 lg4 carb car. they did not come with computers. no wires to the carb or dist. if you look there are almost no wires.
not even a smog pump.
its extremely simple so going with a new edelbrock carb that's an exact match to the eps intake.
the more basic my setup is I figure the more reliable it will be.
thanks for the interest in my project

Awesome progress man, I don't want to tell you what to do with your car in any way but I'd prep and spray some of that engine bay before anything else gets in the way. awesome car

yes your right I should clean the engine bay. will try to tomorrow
I only get one day a week to work on the car so its going slow
im hoping to put the rear end and other new parts in the back tomorrow.
im still confused how to get top dead center and install distributer and balancer.....
1996 Camaro SS rear end. 3.42 gears. car had 38 000 original kilometers on it when totaled.

rad, rad fan, and kit to turn on and off with temp
the car came with a clutched water pump fan

back in 93 I ripped out the ac. so the blower no longer worked. I found this ac delete setup that will get everything working again.

new exhaust from front to back. im going to break in the engine with them unpainted with vht then sand blast and paint them next year.

cool headlights. they take h4 bulbs and only cost $8 each on ebay new.

a couple things I picked up for the car

Who's exhaust system is that? Looks nice.
I have those same headlights! Have had them for over 20 years. Just got done refinishing the back side (build thread) of them for use in my T/A.

Hi dave
The headlights are from a guy that had some old stock on ebay
Yes $8 each. If you search hella h4 it will pop up if he has anymore

You can find tdc by turning over the motor while watching the rockers, put a straw in the spark plug hole of cylinder one and wait for the intake rocker to dip down and then once the cylinder comes back up and pinches the straw you know you're on tdc of the compression stroke for cylinder one, not too sure on how to instal the distributor after that but I know that the rotor has to be pointing to the number one cylinder. Hopefully someone else can fill the gaps that I missed

Re: after sitting 20 years, my 1985 trans am restoration
thank you for the tips. im going to try to install the balancer and distributer tomorrow.
last Tuesday I installed the 96 SS rear end. it seams a little short for the vette. wheels. I might have to install longer studs and run a thin spacer
at least with the founders adjustable pan hard bar I can center the rear end because the car is lowered with sportlines

I didn't try the distributer and balancer. still unsure about it.
I tried to install new t-top weather seals and headliner. because its c&c I have to use a hardtop headliner and cut out the t-top holes. not fun when the fabric is already installed lol. ill take pics this sunday.
and thanks for the interest in my friends here is a shot from tonight

Some of the girls, like Mel for instance appear a bit young - like maybe under age. If that is not the case and the girls are over 18 then I don't have an issue with it.

Re: after sitting 20 years, my 1985 trans am restoration
There are pockets of good or bad looking girls. Toronto is ok. Montreal its a constant smoke show and easy to pick up.
Where I live, it's horrible. We have a ratio of like 3 or 4 guys per girl, with not a lot of decent local civilian jobs. So the women here are military wives or the local girls whose big dream in life is to get knocked up at 19 by an army dude and collect his pay. And we're a couple hours from a decent sized city (Ottawa). The saying up here is "a 9 in petawawa is a 3 in Ottawa" lol.
Plus for 9 months of the year everyone is covered up (good if you like yoga pants).
I say keep the pics, none of these girls look under age, it keeps things interesting.
BTW op, I'll be in Borden on and off through the next year, so I'll be fairly local. If your car is ready next year (or if mine is ever finished lol) we can hit up some cruise nights. There is a good one Fridays in Mississauga with the CCFBG guys, super friendly group.

Ya just don't want to offend anyone
Here is the user name of guy on ebay maybe if you send him a message he might have more. Figured someone on here could use a set too
His ebay member name is
http://www.ebay.com/usr/blackhawk-tools
Edit
He says he has lots
Mention your friend "turbosummer" bought them for $8 each see what he says
He wants $25 each or best offer now
If you get a pair let me know I'm glad I could help

Wow, that's a nice car too. When I was in H.S., one of my friends had one of these new, 301, same color, but had T-tops.

I wasn't sure how to install the balancer and distributer. so my 85 trans am is delayed till next spring
I sold my 80 and 81 trans am. with the money from the 81 I bought a 1994 corvette. at least its turn key and I have been driving it for a week now. nice to actually drive one of my sports cars lol.
plus 300 hp and a 6 speed manual is a lot more fun

My cousin had a vette pretty similar to yours when I was a kid. I'd always ask her to go for a ride. It looks really nice!
I was going to say that you should put those ws6 rims from your '80 TA onto your '85, but I guess you don't have them anymore?

looks like I will be putting the 85 trans am in long term storage again. I was spending too much of my one day a week off working on it rather then actually driving a hobby car.
I picked up a 2000 trans am 6 speed. this summer I will be driving it and the corvette.
