Jimmy Cone

I went to Jimmy Cone but it looks like nobody else did There was a nice gray IROC there and a 82-84 Z28 but that was about it for 3rd gens.

Oh well, maybe next month we'll get a showing of 3rd gens there...

Still working on it

1) My AFR titanium retainers don't fit the Comp 987's so I had to order up a set of Comp 730 titanium retainers.
2) New valve seals were needed so I ordered up a set of Viton seals from TEA.
3) I needed to advance my cam so I ordered up a Cloyes Hex-A-Just double roller and sold my or standard Cloyes double roller.
4) Ordered up some idler pullies from Dal since I sold my old 1LE delete pulley - doh!

On the positive side ...
- The cam is in and degreed. All events are on the money after adjusting the Hex-a-just
- CC 3-piece Billet Timing cover is all bolted up and sealed ... along with the oil pan being cinched back up tight. Had to fab up a new timing pointer due to the thickness of the cover ... which required reinstallation of the degree wheel and finding true TDC again - egad.
- Water pump is on and torqued down
- Reassembled all my old serpentine bracketry and it's all bolted up along with the steering column.
- New March aluminum Power & Amp pullies all bolted up to their respective mates.

Right now I have to ...
- Blueprint the installation of all the 987s. I have a dyno chart that lists the pressures of each spring and I have to measure, shim, measure, and then install for 16 springs.
- Check my new retainer-to-seal clearance
- Install lifters, Hydra-Rev, valvetrain, intake, radiator, fans, blablabla.

I'm probably looking at 2 weeks or more ... specially since I usually only get one day out of the week to work on my car and we are in the process of moving to Middletown. We move out of our current house on the 27th - 10 days from now. Egad.

Dang, Tim

That's a lot of work you've done/still to do. I'm glad I'm done with mine. Its now just chip tuning or rather me buying someone else's chip to tune

No chip burning for me since I don't have any stuff to do it. Still have my LT1 Edit that I play with but no LT1 anymore.

Good luck with the installs. Can't wait to see the car! And good luck with the new house.

A progress report since this forum goes really slow

- The new CC 987s are installed along with the CC 730 titanium retainers, and the TEA Viton valve seals. The CC retainers yield about 0.060" extra clearance height as compared to the AFR retainers. All the springs are 'blueprinted'. Each one required 2 0.060" shims. Most required an extra 0.030" or 0.015" shim. I have an excel spreadsheet with all the end-result installed heights. Each spring was setup on a one-by-one basis to give about 140lbs on the seat. This will give about 350lbs open.

- I had to fabricate a new timing pointer since the CC billet cover is so thick. This is done and installed.

- Driver's side serpentine bracket is bolted up. Passenger side has interference with the Edelcrap water pump. I had ALREADY clearanced this bracket for an Edelcrap water pump. I have to clearance it some more since Edelcrap changed their design. No electric in the garage so I couldn't fire up my grinder to get this finished. Both the 1LE A/C delete pulley and the GM smog-pump delete idler are bolted up.

- Found my car keys which I thought I lost

Still left:
Lifters, HydraRev, Pushrods, Rockers, Intake, modify thermo, crank pulley, modify pass. bracket, radiator, tranny cooler, fans, measure for serp. belt, wiring routing changes, adjust rockers, ignition, plugs, wires, distributor, fuel lines, etc.

... and I am moving on Wednesday ... and then moving again 3 weeks later.

Glad you're car is going back together so easy, unlike mine. I had to call ATI up last week and ask them why none of the belts they listed for my kit or any belt let alone work for my setup. So they sent me a 4.25"pulley to try and its still not working. I can't believe this kit is not going my way. I'm about to pull it all off and sell it. but me and my dad are going to redesign this engine bracket they included and get it to work. My FAST unit is wired up. i just need to throw in my radiator and fans and attach battery to fire her up without the blower.
