Title problems in MD.....
Ok, so here goes,
I ended up getting the car I have for free. It was listed on www.Freecycle.com, I responded and was handed a clear title with the sellers sig and info on it. It has a N.J. tile. It was free because the ladies husband had passed on and she didn't think it was worth anything and wanted it out of the drive because she was selling the house. She gave me the title, I checked it, it matched the VIN on the car. I went ahead and towed the car home here to MD.
So I went to the MVA (MD) site to see what I am going to need what I needed to do to get the title in my name. They list 2 things for out of state titled cars...
1.) a title with the sellers info and my info.
2.) a notarized bill of sale.
Guess which one I dont have? Yep, a notarized bill of sale from lady in NJ, even though it was free. I tried contacting the lady I got the car from, she has moved and I cannot find her.
Now, knowing how **** MD MVA can be, I am seriously wondering what kinda junk they are going to give me over not having a notarized bill of sale.
I hope they don't refuse me, because then all I can do with it is part it out and start over with something else.
I am going to call the MVA on Monday and see what they say.

don't waste your time calling the 800 #, just go to the MVA, my mother is a supervisor at the Gaithersburg office, trust me when i say that the 800# is a waste of time, you'll spend 40 minutes on the phone, just to find out what i just told you, email me if you want more advice, or help

Well, I am guilty of being hard headed, so I called the 800# anyways.
What I was told is that as long as there is a spot for date of sale and the amount of the sale on the back of the title, I was good to go.
Something else I was told, in MD the only way a car can be a gift is if it is between immeadiate family... So even if it was free, I have to put down a dollar. No big, the flat tax on it will be $32, and $23 for the Title work....
Looks like I get to avoid having to send it to the boneyard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you'd never have to do that. if you wanted to keep the car you could get a title for it at the circuit court. but i'm sure it's a pain in the butt. but youv'e talked to the mva so you should be gettin used to it....
