Car without a title in MD/VA

I’m in MD… my formula… well, has a decent interior, nice drivetrain and the body is junk (bent frame, rot, would need everything forward of the door plus a bunch of rust repair and paint to even look decent…). There’s a perfect (well for my needs, early ‘80s firebird hardtop, which is my favorite of the 3rd gens, straitish body, no major dents or rust…) car at a JY in VA for a reasonable price.

Problem. It’s in a JY, no title…

Anyone know how to get something coming from out of state without a title (not because it was damaged beyond repair so it’s not a salvage, as far as I can tell it’s just old, needs paint an the engine is gone), titled in MD?

I believe in MD when a car is sold to a JY, the JY submits the title to the MVA and it is issued a salvage title. When the JY destroys the car, they report the VIN# to the MVA as destroyed. So you might wanna ask the JY, they should have the title for the car. Best bet would be to call the MVA and see what the deal is. I would talk to the JY B4 you call the MVA and get as much info on the car.

The JY in VA definitly does not have a title for it... and it would be a shame for this car to have a salvage title, unless I can get it issued in VA (salvage titles usually do not trasfer between states). The biggest issue I have with a salvage title is that I'm told that it makes insurance more of a PITA...
