Does it crank at all? What motor does it have?, give as many details as possible,

Cheap parts are plentiful on this site, try with Rcar,Ted G. Or a few others that are big part out gurus, and they have great prices

Tries to turn over but doesn't. New alternator, tried jumping it for 15 minutes, nothing. It's a 1992 RS, 3.1L, V6, not really sure what else. I think he's decided that it's the starter. Very short on cash right now but it's his only car so he's gotta get it fixed.

Re: Maryland roll call!!

Do you have a part store around you that will test the starter for you? Have them test the starter and battery and go from there, let us know the results maybe someone who has delt with a 3.1 will know what needs to be done

Re: Maryland roll call!!

I actually think there is a Crazy Rays near me. I'll check them and see if they have a starter. Thanks everyone. On another note, I have a 2003 Cadavalier that the transmission stopped working in. The shifter just moves up and down freely. Any ideas? I know it's not a 3rd Gen, but figured someone might know

If it moves up and down freely(automatic?) I would think your shifter cable is broken, or a part inside the shifter is broken/out of alignment, I know on the cobalts there is a pin/rod that slides through the shifter and if its messed up the shifter moves freely

Re: Maryland roll call!!

He changed the ignition coil and module. Nothing. I talked to my dad who used to work on cars and he said it isn't the started because it's cranking. Not getting any spark when he puts a screwdriver in the sparkplug wire ( I think that's where he's putting it) and not smelling any fuel when we try to start it. Maybe a fuel filter??

id put a pressure gauge on it...see if it's getting pressure at the fuel rails when you turn the key to the on position...should be able to hear the fuel pump prime. Every time i get in my car I wait for the pump to prime before cranking, makes it start easier

just a mild port and rebuild nothing crazy. car smokes a little and I am trying not to spend a ton of money on it because I want to do an lsx swap.
So when I am ready I might have a few questions for you.

Re: Maryland roll call!!

I'm still around and have my 91 formula, however, it really just sits most of the time and I drive it a few miles every month or so. Somehow people still seems to hit my car when its just sitting outside parked with the car cover on it. Luckily they backed into my tire mostly and put a dent in the fender which I mostly pulled out. Down the road the car will get restored but at least it still runs when I want to drive it.

Kent Island here. Just bought a 1983 white bird. I got some crossfire vacuum issues and wiring issues to hammer out. It also needs new tires and the exhaust fixed and I'll be able to start having fun with her!

Of course, while all this is going on I'm keeping any eye out for a LQ4 or LQ9 setup

Re: Maryland roll call!!

Elkton, MD here. Just got a 1992 z28 with a brand new Chevy 350 crate engine. Transmission was rebuilt for up to 600 HP, automatic. Upgraded the radiator. New tires, brakes, undercoating, fuel lines, power steering you name it this guy did it. Found the car up in Rhode Island and had to bring her home.

Question is can these cars be registered historic? I know this will pass safety inspection but I"m worried about the new engine and brand new exhaust the previous owner installed on it. Sounds really bad *** but do I need to pass emissions? Would be ashame to have to alter it. Any help is appreciated.

Hopefully some thirdgen members will see me or hear me around Cecil County lol.

Yes a vehicle 20 years or older may be registered as historic in MD, no inspection needed

Glad to see another thirdgen brought to MD!

The down side to historic, antique, and street rod tags is that you can only drive your car on weekends, holidays, and in show/parades.

Mine is tagged historic, have never had a single problem with the cops, I've got friends who are cops who tell me all the time historic tags are the least of their worrys, the only people who get in trouble are those who work on a military base and drive the car to work daily, and even then it's only the MP's that give you issues

Re: Maryland roll call!!

Got mine tagged historic today and actually got to go out and drive for a bit. Loved every minute of it! My primary vehicle is a 2011 Ford F350 6.7 Liter Diesel Truck. 99 percent of the time my 92 z28 is only going out on weekends if I'm lucky. I'm sure in the first few months of ownership I may take it one day to work to show my guys but other than that I'll take the truck.

Hopefully I can get some good photos of car to post on here. I've been checking out a lot of the members cars here and must say I"m impressed. Hopefully I'll find some third gens around my area. I've seen a couple but not too many when I'm out and about. I definitely turned a few heads here and there while out on a leisurely drive. Good times!!

Re: Maryland roll call!!

I'm transitioning to MD. been here since june and still haven't gotten a place of our own yet. We're staying in Catonsville, but the car is living in Waldorf. I've got a new job and hope to have some money for a place after tax return time.
