Really didn't want to post this here, but I didn't know where else to stick it, so here goes.
So my buddy just picked up an '86 Z28, and now a bunch of friends want 3rd gens. This being the case, I went and knocked on the door at this house where I had seen 3 of'em just sitting for years. The only one he said he'd sell is this '88 GTA. Now here's where it gets tricky.
Body and interior are immaculate (well, the body is once you clean all the crap off of it, except the spoiler, of course), I think the odometer read 95K, all tan leather, body matching hatch louvers (it's white) rims are in great shape, hardtop. I believe it's an L98/700R4. He said the TPI messed up on him after he bought it and he took it off, went to swap over a complete TPI from an '87 formula, and the hoses on the formula disintegrated in his hands. He never marked off how everything went back together, so like this is has sat. The tags died in 2005.
He said he wants $3k, as thats what he paid. I KNOW it isn't worth 3k, there's no way in hell. My question to you, is what would YOU pay for it?

I think $2k or 2.5k or 1.5k. Depends upon what you can do to fix it as well. I have a shade tree mechanic friend. I saved alot of money because of him. The GTA I have still needs some work. The spoilers on the GTA's are prone to cracking. Mine is cracked. I have a replacement fiberglass one. It will be awhile before I have that put on the car. Your headlight motors will have to be repaired, unless the guy who owns it now repaired it. There are 3 plugs on each headlight motor that need to be replaced. The drivers side headlight motor is the worst one to work on though. Wonder why the passenger side one is so much easier to work then the drivers side? Look at the seatbelts too. There probably cracked and faded. I'm going to replace mine with some black ones. Going to replace the black color with portola red. The portola red is suppose to be close to dark carmine red. You probably know all this stuff already has you have a 91 GTA.
Yeah, I mean I have a general idea of what it's goin to need. Brakes are probably toast, and who knows if even after everything has been returned to functional if it will even start. The dude that has it said he would call me at some point today with what he might want for it, but asked me to do some looking myself. I figure its probably worth at least 15 given the condition of the rest of the car. It's got the roof console with the flashlight and stuff (not sure if this was standard for an '88 GTA, the '91's were relatively stripped down in comparison... I don't even have leather). I also don't want to steer any friends that don't have alot of cash to spend in the first place in the wrong direction. I figure it's worth $1500, but we'll see what dude says.
Before I bought the GTA from the previous owner I had him take the car to car dealer. I wanted to find out what needed to be repaired on the car. Everything that needed to be repaired on the car is what I knocked off on the price. I think I paid $50.00 dollars over what I was going to pay. Since I had a shade tree mechanic fix the car it helped with the cost of it. I'm going to really hate when he retires. He is very good for not being ASE certified. Old school mechanic.
