Should I buy this car?
Hi guys,
Sorry if this is the wrong board, I didn't know where else to post this.
There's a car for sale here in Michigan that has caught my interest. I don't really need another project, but I can't pass up a good deal. So I need your advice. Is this a good deal?
The car:
1991 Chevy Camaro Z28 with 99,998 miles with a 406 small block chevy with the Holley Stealth Ram TPI intake and 30lb Accel injectors, Holley 255L fuel pump and holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Maxi cool oil cooler, SLP 1 3/4" headers, Th350 trans built up, with TCI 2800 stall, Sphon adjustable torque arm, also Sphon 3" driveshaft, lakewood lower control arms, and panhard rod. Sportsman II stage two ported heads with summit 1.6 roller rocker arms, Comp Cam grind number CS 280H-R10 (224 @.050 .525I .525E LSA 110), MSD 6A ignition with MSD wires and Accel plugs. No a.i.r no a/c, no cats, no radio included. Also B&M star shifter with Flowmaster exhaust out back. New radiator, new starter, new battery, some stainless steel braided lines on oil/trans cooler modified chip for new set-up will also include stock chip. Also new rear rotors and pads, with new Chevy valve covers, timing chain cover and oil pan.
$3,000.00
I thought it would be neat to own a '91 Camaro (Z28) w\ fuel injected 400 SBC, since I already have a '91 Firebird w\ carbed 400 SBC. And it looks like this guy has already done some nice suspension mods.
In the picture, the car looks solid (no obvious rust/dents), but definately needs a paint job - paint peeled off in several areas (mostly ground effects). BTW, the car is white, with black interior.
So what do you guys think? Is it a good deal, or should I pass. I'd especially like the opinions of you guys running FI setups, as I am pretty ignorant when it comes to FI. In my last email to the owner, I asked about 1/4 mile times. I'll post the results after I get his reply.
Thanks

Is it all done and running completely or is he in the middle of wiring things up? If it all works completely and only needs a paint job that is a good price, especially since it is a '91 Z28. Other than that...do you really need/want another drag car? Perhaps, if you want another challenge you should look for an Auto-X car.

If the engine is what he says it is - I think it's an awesome price!!
I'd jump all over it. The engine's worth that much alone....
How would I know?? I have more than the asking price of that car in the 406 I'm building now!!

I decided not to buy it.
One project car is enough to drain my finances. Even though I think it is a good deal, that's $3K I could be putting into my Firebird.
If anyone else is interested, I found the car for sale in the classified section of www.lapeerdragway.com. He said that he would sell the engine for $1,200 - not bad for a Stealth Ram 406.
