How much would you think this is worth?

I'm considering selling my original engine to free up space. Here's what it is:

- 1983 5.0 Liter H.O. (305) .030 over
- rebuilt less than 8K miles ago
- Heads rebuilt, new springs w/Teflon oil seals
- Speed Pro hyper pistons w/moly rings
- Crank reground .010 under
- Clevite 77 tri-metal bearings
- AZ rebuilt CC Q-Jet ($210.00 new)
- Original CC distributor
- Weiand Action Plus intake (Emissions legal, 1 year old)
- Crane 2040 Compu-cam w/new lifters, bearings (Emissions legal)

- Strong, great running engine, doesn’t smoke a bit
- Passed all emissions tests with flying colors – twice!
- Have over $xxxx in receipts for engine machine work/parts
- All machine work done at a reputable machine shop

Also have available:
Complete ECM engine harness w/computer

So - what do you think is a fair price? Try not to insult too much please, after all it is completely rebuilt even though it's a 305...

I guess what I'm saying is, there's plenty of $50 305's in the junkyard if that's what you want.

Could probably get $300 or so if you wait for someone who blows a 305 and needs a new one.

Yep, that's what I thought.

Sounds like it's worth keeping. I'd lose my a** selling it for that low.

But I realize especially on this board, 305's get a pretty bad rap.

Heck, the intake was 140 alone....not to mention the carb.

To get the most back out of it, I think your best bet would be to split the motor up. Sell the heads, intake, carb, and short block separately. IMO you'll probably get more cash if you can bring yourself to pull the motor apart.

i agree. split everything up. 1) easier to sell individual parts, 2) more need in the community for individual parts such as carb, intake, cam, etc., 3) you will get more money out of them. if you say i am selling a 305 i would give ya 50 bucks but to buy the intake or carb maybe 75-100 each. 4) it will make you happy to get your hands dirty in disassembly and make your wallet more pleasing to the "old lady."

Thanks guys....that's just the type of input I was looking for.

Now that I think about it, you're probably right about parting it out.

There's people hunting for 416 casting heads and such. As tempting as 300 bucks sounds.... ..., I have 340 bucks wrapped up between just the intake and carb alone! Not that I'd get that much seeings how they are a year old...but still I should get SOMETHING for them!

Spartyon - getting my hands dirty is nothing new to me! I work in a power plant, and I'm re-assembling my 408 at home right now! But I might wanna hold off on disassembling the 305 till the 408 is done....don't wanna accidently mix and match parts between the 408 and 305!! lol

Oh, and my wallet is only pleasing to the old lady when it's empty!

a good rule of thumb is take whatever you have invested into it and divide it in half... that's a good starting point.

engine/drivetrains are more of a money pit than women....
